Answered Wayne "The Great One" Gretzky
Well, the question is who is the greatest, not who is the best all around player. Both Orr and Howe might have been better, more complete, players, but only Orr and Plante really changed the way the game was played like Gretzky did, and Gretzky has longevity over Orr and sheer statistical dominance over Plante, so I'd say Gretzky wasn the "greatest". Gordie was probably the best, most complete player, though. -

Gretzky created a lot of popularity for the sport where it counts -- Los Angeles -- when he joined the Kings. He also has done a lot for the league after his playing days ended.
Answered Gordie "Mr. Hockey" Howe
Gordie Howe had the whole package, others in this poll lacked an attribute (toughness), or had less of it (scoring ability), especially toughness. Nobody was afraid of Gretzky, or Lemieux for example.
