2008 GOP Convention: Should Bush stay home?

Current President, George W. Bush, is scheduled to speak opening night at the 2008 Republican Convention. With worry in their eyes, the Republican party is weary as what to do about Bush attending. John McCain is trying desperately to remove himself from the Bush shadow, and there are many supporters of McCain who simply wish Bush would stay home, and out of the way of the convention.

Answered No. As current president, it is his right and duty for Bush to speak at the convention.

Every time bush opens his mouth it's at least one more vote for Senator Obama, so OF COURSE he should speak at the convention. Let him speak every day, night and day. Let him be the guy who says "Alabama casts its 42 votes for .....". Anything he can do to help get his party out of power would earn the everlasting gratitude of the American people (and the Iraqi people, and the Canadian people, and the British people, and the French people .......)

Bush should be there with his twin. Maybe they can hug again. Trying to distance himself from someone with whom he voted in agreement over 95% of the time would be very dishonest for McCain. And given that it is, I wouldn't be surprised if McCain begged Bush to say home.

Do you realize that by the same statistics Obama voted the same as McCain 90% of the time. Most of these votes were unanimous votes and everybody voted with Bush; Just another example of Democratic propaganda

I say this because I support Obama, and if Bush speaks at the convention, it is really going to help the democrats win the White House.

I listened. My respect dwindled with every word. Let me guess...you're a little short in the education department, thereby probably short in the IQ department as well?? (It's 'should have', not 'should of'.)

I think we should stop worrying about how people feel. He's the president and he deserves respect for that alone.

Respect must be earned by actions. We can respect the position without respecting the person in the office.
  • raves     [-] Chris [Ninja]™ replied to mykeesgram
Ok, well then we should respect the position.

Answered It's not going to make a difference whether Bush speaks or not.

The differences between Obama and McCain are the ones that matter. I don't care who speaks honestly. I like Hillary and I didn't care that is said something nice about Obama. My vote is still going for McCain.
  • raves     [-] mykeesgram replied to Kitty we shall overcome!
I'm amazed by anyone who would be supportive of even one of Hillary's ideals or on the same side as she on even one issue, but would still try to screw our country by voting for McCain. Obama isn't an ideal candidate due to lack of experience, but he believes in the same basic human concerns and ways to remedy problems. The only reason I can see one would justify such a switch to McCain would be extreme racism. If that's your reason, I feel sorry for you for your lack of understanding of humanity as a whole.

Obama's ideas will never work. He changes so much. He changed his views on when to leave Iraq twice in one day within 3 hours. Who the heck knows what he is for. You hear him but wait a few hours and it may be something different. He has done it from the start. I can't vote for someone who won't make a stand.

Answered No. As current president, it is his right and duty for Bush to speak at the convention.

President George W. Bush is a good man! There is nothing wrong with his leadership! The questions about his character and his intelligence from members of my generation and younger...just proves that ignorance can be propagated through propaganda, and that the youngest Americans truly do not understand the meaning of the word, RESPECT, and chivalry, as I am proving in my polls.

Note to the President: Mr. Bush, if you read this, Please be assured that loyalty and RESPECT for you do exist in this nation! It is an honor to call you my President! :)

I would respect Bush more if he would respect our constitution, and the limits it places on presidential power. i.e. warrantless wiretap, torture, signing staements, pardoning Libby etc. etc.
