How is the working poor going to survive?

Gas prices are rising...Where I live its over 4 dollars a gallon....and minimum wage is $6.25 an hour....how are they going to be able to make it to work and pay the bills and buy necessities? before to long the only rich people will be government officials, doctors will become middle class citizens, nurses and other now middle class citizens will become the poor class citizens and the working poor will become carpetbaggers living off the streets.....

I'm currently living on Social Security Disability, able to "spend" $144/month. I don't trust the government not to bail on me, so I have my own wheelchair, tent, and bedding. I'd have to do without my medications, but I'm prepared to rough it.

riots, burglary, robbery, murder will all increase in due time! no one will give a shit about the poor, about the ones that struggle. People are already dropping their kids off at the local hospitals like pets they don't need anymore! and mccain & bush say we are safe! it will get worse before it gets better! I really don't want to think about it but it's true!

my husband and i live well below the poverty line and barely make ends meet, but with creative budgeting, we can squeak by. it just means we have to be very creative with our resources.

The working poor [ i am one] will survive.
The working poor endured the Depression.; Today, is different, but still liveable. Easy? no.

They will continue to work. Even when laid off of a job, the 'working' poor will find a way to work.
As for the gas prices, and taxes, that is a matter that Congress can assist in by reducing restrictions on drilling, and lowering taxes.
Some may suggest 'raising the minimum wage again, but all that does is drive up prices- - - How does the employer pay for the minimum wage increase?

  • raves +2   [-] cronewinter replied to Jerry
yes, my hubby worked till age 62 and had a stroke, half the income gone overnight and he can't be left alone so it's hard to hold down the amount of hours i'd need to work as i have to be home. catch 22. the assistance does provide some caregiving hours but it seems so strange to me to be punished for illness and treated poorly because of things out of our control. sorry, i get upset about this issue.

Republicans only care about the rich.... that's why things are soo messed up for the middle class!!!

actually, that's not true, it's almost always been the republicans who have given breaks to the working class people, so when you say they only care about the rich you're lying, even if you don't know you are, and if you think that loser Barry's going to wave some magic wand and make things all better for you, then you've been deceived, even if you don't know you have.

During times of economic hardship, life is always harder for the lower and working classes- the middle class usually has to trim their budget, some suffer more than others... and the rich and powerful continue to get richer and more powerful. Fortunately, in America we're not confined to the economic or social class to which we're born- people in other countries aren't so lucky.

    Answered They wont.

I think prices will fall hard and fast. But if I'm wrong, entire segments of jobs will disappear and the working poor will be at the mercy of their families. It would have fallen sooner if not for the contrived mortgage equity loan market.
