This man was an oppressive force to all humanity in Venezuela....how could that ever be leaving a positive legacy? We as American's or freedom loving Americans at least, don't think this way though.

    The country is in turmoil.
Chavez was following the path of those who come to power and then do what it takes to keep it.
He was becoming more capricious and dictatorial. He was undermining Venezuela's democracy.
He had presidential term limits abolished, for example. He unfairly repressed some opposition figures.
He undermined the independence of the judicial system and the news media. It is a fair bet that if Chavez had not died of cancer, he would have gone further and further down the path of the dictator.
    Good riddance...

I hope so, and Joe Kennedy did a lot of good work through Chavez to help the poor here in America with heating oil from Venezuela for those who couldn't afford to heat their homes in the winter.

His legacy will live on. Venezuela today is a better place for having had Chavez as President.
Let see if you can say the same for Obama after he is gone.

And don't forget about the multi-Billions he stole from Venezuela people in oil, airlines, power, utilities, banks and stealing from wealthier Venezuelans bank accounts! Sounds like what Obama wants to do!

Good lord I hope not! But he's a hero to many here in America who actually have a concept of freedom. Just the other day a young man walked into my liquor store wearing a Hugo Chavez t-shirt. I invited an explanation of the man. I cleared up his confusion in short order and I've not seen the shirt again. However, Obama may erect a Chavez monument in D.C...

Hugo turned once prosperous areas into slums, introduced inflation, measured in thousands %, store shelves are mostly bare of things like bread and milk, he and his family pocketed $billion$ and none of the peasants seem to be any better off, not much anyway, not like his ilk.
There is a real chance for obama to affect change for the good of the people of Venezuela by helping the opposition leader Henrique Campriles by inviting him to the WH thus giving him credibility. But watch, 0bama will do nothing of the sort. He will support the next leftist in line.

Actually my answer is it depends on who you ask. To the mass amount of poor people, with no concept of democracy...kind of like our current administration, (sorry could not stop myself) he will be seen as a great leader. He did reduce the amount of poverty, but his technique was without scrupples. To those that owed businesses or land and had it confiscated by the government and especially for the surviving family members of those murdered by his regime, he will be seen as the monster I feel he was.

Hugo Chavez net worth: Hugo Chavez was a Venezuelan politician who had a net worth of $1 billion at the time of his death on March 5th 2013. A 2010 report from Criminal Justice International Associates (CJIA), a global risk assessment and threat mitigation firm estimated that the Chavez family assets totaled between $1 and $2 billion USD. The vast majority of these assets are oil related and were controlled by Hugo himself prior to his death. The head of the CJIA, Jerry Brewer, asserted that since Hugo's rise to power in 1999, the extended family has amassed its fortune through both legal and illegal methods. Brewer further estimates that the Chavez family and hundreds of other criminal organization have "subtracted $100 billion out of the nearly $1 trillion in oil income made by PDVSA (Venezuela's state controlled oil company), since 1999."

I find it strange how the left loves someone that impoverished those that disagreed with him, took over the media to stop the horrible truth from getting out, and impoverished so many people. The man was a monster. He was loaded and lived like a king as his people were dirt poor and had little opportunity. I guess ultimately this is what the left roots for in this country.
