I just took my first real vacation in years. Staying in small inns along the way till reaching Tours, France and later in Paris. It was the best journey of my life.
This is the actual place I stayed at last time down at Fort Walton Beach in Florida. Beach all day & hot tub every morning & night! And all the fresh gulf shrimp I could eat for days & days. It's almost as pretty as the beaches in Greece, but easier & cheaper to get to.
I remember now about your meds. I am on hydrocodone, ultram, xanax and cant keep up with the rest of them.I was in Hawaii in late 80s had a blast.I take all of this pain med from complications of my cancer treatment. Hawaii and Alaska are on my list of travels.Hope you are doing better! deano

Italy is amazing I spent some time there back when I was still racing bikes. I found the people to be much warmer than in France. Well at least in the big cities, the small town folks in France were fantastic.
I wish I could bike over there its amazing country side. My first cousin who use to a doctor but is now a photogapher lives there. Not sure where, lost touch with him. The people in Wales were some of the friendliest I have ever met.It is amazing.I wish i could ride again but cant due to medical.Probably another year and i will be able to ride.Never did racing, thats great you got the chance to enjoy your sport in other countries.I look forward to Italy,I am just waiting on the go ahead from my doctors. Do physical therapy, pain therapy from my colo rectal cance.I am fine but at 42 I especially miss my water sports.I suffered nerve damage due to surgery.I am on the eliptical and tread machine almost hour most days. I did ride a bike over the Golden Gate Bridge a few years ago. lol
Riding in San Francisco can be a bear. I did a triathlon there back in the 90's escape from Alcatraz. Best of luck to you on your trip and your recovery. Have a great safe trip.
While reading about your riding in San Francisco, one of my favorite places. Lot of hills, steep ones and i was there one time when they raced through the city. That was really amazing,i dont know how they keep from running over each other. As you know they travel fast,i really enjoyed it. Have you ever raced downtown sf.
No I cant;t say that I have but I did do some riding around while I was there. Beautiful City, murderous hills thank God they're short climbs as steep as they are... It would be nuts to try long climbs that steep.
Years ago, after the millionth time of cars forcing me to 'bend rims' by having to bang up a curb to avoid them, I switched from my racing bike to the then NEW "Cross Bikes". It was great. Half way between a racer & a mountain bike. Best bike I ever rode, and it was light enough & sturdy enough. I put a set of 'profile bars' on her, and I could last in the saddle just as long as I ever did on my racers.

I've ridden my friends that has it with a road bar setup, maybe but I have so many now space grows short. I've kept every race bike I have ridden so you can imagine, I have a 2 car garage that fits one car...LOL
My thought was when I retire open a bike shop and hang them up as art or a restaurant and do the same. Clean bikes of coarse...
My vacations are almost always road trips, so the usual Best Western or some other available motel/hotel works for the night's rest -- as long as the window opens! The longer the stay, though, the more amenities I require these days -- pool, fridge in room, decent t.v. reception, bigger room...
True. roadtrips are fun. Most motel, hotels ect to major update when it come to tv. I recenctly stayed in a hotel,it was great but the tv was ridiculously small.

Gas prices weren't fun, but there was very little traffic -- always a bonus...
