When someone asks you 'what's up' how do you reply?

almost everytime i ask what's up people always say 'nothing' or 'not much' or 'boredom'. only a few tell me 'what's up'. *haha* even i'm like that that- someone asks 'what's up' and i'm like 'oh, nothing, just bored' i will tell a couple people 'what's up'. this question is not only for when people ask on sodahead, but also in person. matter of fact doesn't it seem like when people ask that or ' how are you doing' they don't really want an answer, just being polite?
