It's a tradition from my mother's family - her father was from Sweden. Every year we had rice pudding as dessert. The pudding contained a single almond in it, and who ever got the almond, got good luck for the following year.
Spending time with my family. Especially my nieces and my nephew. They make the holidays fun. I also like the christmas specials. Yes I like the cartoon ones I have seen every year since I was born.
Celebrating the Winter Solstice (Alban Arthan) or Yule with ancient rituals...either with a group or solo....and usually includes cutting of the mistletoe and a bonfire. We turn out the lights after sunset... lighting only with candles and/or firelight as a way of really experiencing the longest night in the same way as our ancestors. Three days after Yule we celebrate the return of light and the sun growing in strength...or the rebirth of the Sun. We also have a feast and decorate out home with mistletoe and holly... exchange a gift ... and sing Yule carols. The best part is having all of my children together.
Having a lovely tree, and have my children around and just enjoying what CHRISTMAS is all about, a wish, thanks, for what you have..L-O-V-E around you, your love ones.
my family meets at my parent house, central NE, so you never know what the weather will be, between my brother and sister they have 5 kids and 15 grandkids so its always full of little kid excitement
Going out to Grandpa and Grandma's farm...now dad's farm called 7 Gables Farm in NE Kansas. A little snow is always nice! Then, having dinner, walking around our little lake, opening presents and catching up with family and old friends.
I love the first snow that covers all the trees and glissons with sparkles, like silver glitter...and to watch my grandchildren play and make snow angels. Too watch the expressions on their faces when they open their gifts....and I do not buy what they want....because that defiets the surprise.
