SodaHead Celebrates Green Week

Question SodaHead

Rudy Guiliani interrupted a speech to the NRA to take a call from his wife, do you think it humanizes or hurts his image?

PajamasMedia October 03, 2007 05:27:17

When Rudy Giuliani took a phone call from his wife in the middle of a speech, PJM advice columnist Dr. Helen Smith was appalled. What his campaign tried to spin as the act of a caring husband, she sees as a red flag. Can a guy control the nation if he is controlled by his spouse? Read the article at Pajamas Media!

I dont believe it was his wife that called. I think it was someone telling him what to say or how to answer.

It does huminizes him.. a lot... but, it hurts him too because it takes a punch at how serious others think he is about doing his job..

Are you married? Don't you think his wife knew what he was doing? If she called it must have been very important and not just about picking up some milk on the way home.

cell phone manners should be taught starting in 1st grade! If you're talking to LIVE people, like giving a speech for instance, your cell should be on vibrate or OFF. That way attention is on the people in front of you who are giving you their attention. Call the "little lady" when you're done!

It shows that his wife is probably the most important thing in his life (ehich humanizes him) - but it's hugely disrespectful to the NRA. Why did he even have his cell phone on? What a dick. I'd have to see a video clip to decide.

I see that as a sign he loves his wife and feel that it was ok for him to take that call. It may or may not have been important, but that is their business, and I respect that.

maybe it was super important...u never know what's going on w/other peoples' lives...maybe her mom is in the hospital, or something equivalent. In any case, the man has more room to do things like that than we do!

I think it was staged. He needs to learn to text, and I believe he probably knows how. If it was an emergency, it would have been handled differently. His PR people or security would have been in on it. He needs to be more professional at this point.

Rudy is a brave and patriotic man. He's got my vote! Of course it was staged. I don't care. He's a good and caring man who doesn't sell out . There are issues that I disagree with him on ,but if you show me someone that would agree with everything you say I'll show you a kissass.

I totally understand this but I think it all depends on the situation. I don't expect my husband to talk to me when I call him when he's with a client unless it's urgent. If it can wait, let it wait. He's trying to portray to the world the "caring husband" side of him but oopps, bad timing!

I didn't choose "Hurts" because you spelled judgment wrong. I appreciate that he loves his wife but I'm not sure taking her call during a speech was done for the right reasons. It could've been a little of poor judgment, a little bit of trying to convince people he's a good husband. In any event, the media is hard on him and I think he's a good guy. He was a good Mayor, especially in tragic times. Let's cut him a little slack.

I believe it was a case of poor judgement on his part to take a phone call from his wife or anyone for that matter in the middle of a speech. Did he not realize that he was talking to potential voters in the audience that might just be turned off by this stunt which I believe it was? He should have had his phone turned off and left a number of one of his staff people for the wife to call if it was an emergency.

Do you really think that it wasn't staged, just a political move?
Besides... would you really answer your phone if you were in the middle of a speech? I think not.
