Hmmm

Maybe I'm being over-cautious or something but. Someone friended me today on SH and I looked at her profile and she's 15 and as far as I could tell there wasn't anything in her profile that she and I have in common. I wondered why she'd friended me, but normally I don't mind and I was about to add her as I would with pretty much anyone else.

Then I changed my mind. Because you know if I had a 15 year old daughter I sure would not want her to have 35-year-old men as friends online (or offline).

Now I've never been on Myspace or Facebook or any places like that and I don't know what the normal ettiquette is in situations like that but it makes me nervous. So I don't think I will be friending back anyone whose profile says they're underage.
You!

I can see your point clearly. I have wondered that too. I have been getting tons of adds from girls and boys who are anywhere for ages 12-15. Its not that I don't want to be their friend or answer their polls.. but seriously most of them are about jonas bro or sex and I do not want to have the birds and the bee's conversations with kids I don't know.. I swear Jonas Bros must have posted something about SH on their fan website! I think you are being cautious and not rude. You have every right to filter your friends.

...hm....well that makes sense, but you dont judge people by what their profile says. for all you know they could be lying like shit. but i have several friends that are waaaaay older than me, and they treat me like a friend they have known all their life! i like all friedly people, but when it gets to the point where they point blank start bringing up sexual things (lika an old guy trying to hit on a 15 yr old) then thats when i can see it.

True. But if they're lying (suppose they're 15 but claim to be 30) then that puts any blame on them and not me. It's just a matter of self-protection. I don't have any personal issues with being friends with young people, but the law doesn't like it and tends to assume the worst even when there is nothing sexual going on. And the sad truth is that some people DO tell lies about people they meet online.
