A Saudi Arabian ship with two million barrels of oil bound for the U.S was hijacked by Somalian pirates this week. That is a quarter of their daily production. We need to strike the pirate port of Somalia. The world is sitting back and watching. France stomped some pirates who hijacked their ship, by staging a helicopter assault. What are we doing? The United States must send in the Marines!

Oil went up by one dollar per barrel yesterday on this news. That's huge.

So, of course, whatever happens there, our gas-prices are set to skyrocket again.

Due to Hurricane Ike and the aftermath. We are pretty much out of fuel here for the moment. All the gas stations are empty, only a very few have the super unleaded only.

yeah cause hurrican ike. it went up like 10 cent within the day here in Texas. The off shore drillers had to come in, therefore production has stop for a short time. There had been several station that ran out of gas by noon...crazy huh?

Sounds like it depends where you live......I just heard on the radio that crude oil fell under the $ 100 per barrel mark......$44 less than 2 months ago.
But at the same time OPEC just cut production 556,000 barrels a day to try and keep the price near $ 100 per barrel.

In northern Arizona, I pay $ 3.73 for diesel......thats as cheap as it comes here.

no not here it is dark and cloudy here, but the hurricane is suppose to hit early in the morning in Texas they are saying it is headed for the oil refineries and will put them under water for a few weeks....they are saying the hurricane will be dropping 20 inces of rain there.....our gas was 3.50 yesterday and already over 5 today......

they have so much money they can't even understand it when most people say that 5 dollars is to high for a gallon of gas......I hope it goes back down after the water goes down..

Just know it will eventually, and the dollar will go down some more. The one thing that wont go down is the cost of oil. Not gonna happen untill there is some other dependant source

My guess is oil will continue to go up even as other alternatives are made available. I don't believe any energy source will ever be available that will be cheaper than oil at its current price. We live in the golden age of petroleum and it isn't going to last forever.

true.... I'm hoping that one day we stop using it and switch to alternatives indefinately. Alternatives will be just as or even more when they first come out. However, after time... the prices will go down. As long as wee keep using oil as a major fuel source it isn't going to go down.

When Republicans are incumbents during election years, the price of gas drops precipitously through October and November, spiking back up for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. This is my prediction.

I filled up at lunch for $3.60/gal which is about what it's been. Angel has a thread where she heard it's going up to $5.50/gal in Georgia tonight, that seems ridiculous. In Texas they jumped from $3 to $4.85 because of Ike, it'll depend on how badly hit the refineries are.

It went up a little overnight, due to Ike and the fact that they've shut down the refineries around TX..with OPEC voting to cut back, it will probably go up some more...it is not know how much at this point.

Ike is supposed to be a doozy of a storm; I think they slow or stop drilling for oil when hurricanes blow in so gas prices will start going up....
