Probably all so-called non-profit corporations are concerned with making money; a significant amount goes to the officers in the form of salaries, but they often get other perks such as use of the organization's property and equipment, paid travel (on business,of course.), pensions, medical insurance, and hiring their own relatives, etc. However AARP was in the business of promoting insurance of various types for its members. I do not believe it would be fool enough to promote a bad plan that is not good for its members or that will diminish its revenue.

AARP has become a left wing organization and that is why a lot of seniors bailed out. They get worse every year and are in the same ballpark as ACORN and the SEIU but they act like they are in the Seniors best interests. Bull Shit.

I do not trust this organization. The organization has become another greedy, political power hungry, care less about the average person, liberal organization.

Are there ANY seniors on this site answering this question? My mother is a member of AARP and not only does she receive many benefits, they also assist her when she needs an advocate. She hasn't purchased insurance, she is just a member. For those of you who have a parent or other member of the family that is a senior, seriously sit down with them and discuss this issue with them. Do not take second hand information and run with it. AARP has been an advocate for senior rights since its inception. I stand by it because AARP stands by mother.

Of course, AARP will continue to represent senior citizens, not the private insurance companies which bilk them.
