Yes, AARP is not concerned with those it supposedly represents.

AARP has given up being an advocate for the elderly years ago. They make their money selling insurance and getting government financial perks. Not only that, but the number of AARP members is nonsense. We haven't paid our membership for years but they keep millions like us on the rolls to look good.

Probably all so-called non-profit corporations are concerned with making money; a significant amount goes to the officers in the form of salaries, but they often get other perks such as use of the organization's property and equipment, paid travel (on business,of course.), pensions, medical insurance, and hiring their own relatives, etc. However AARP was in the business of promoting insurance of various types for its members. I do not believe it would be fool enough to promote a bad plan that is not good for its members or that will diminish its revenue.

AARP has become a left wing organization and that is why a lot of seniors bailed out. They get worse every year and are in the same ballpark as ACORN and the SEIU but they act like they are in the Seniors best interests. Bull Shit.

IT APPEARS THAT ALL ORGANIZATIONS THAT HELP THE WORKING MAN ARE CALLED "LEFT WING" BY THOSE WHO ARE MORE INTERESTED IN HELPING THE WEALTHY OWNERS. OVER THE DECADES, THE DEMOCRATS HAVE OBTAINED FOR THE WORKING MAN: A FORTY-HOUR WEEK (THEY USED TO MAKE PEOPLE WORK SIX AND SEVEN DAYS A WEEK AND SOMETIMES UP TO 15 HOURS PER DAY.), MINIMUM WAGE LAWS, EXTRA PAY FOR HOURS OVER FORTY, WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION, DISABILITY PAY, WORKER SAFETY LAWS, UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION, CHILD LABOR LAWS, VACATION AND PENSION PROTECTION LAWS, AND SEXAUL HARASSMENT LAWS. IF YOU WERE A WOMAN, IT WOULD NOT BE UNUSUAL FOR YOU TO GET "LAID OFF" OR FIRED IF YOU DID NOT PUT OUT FOR THE BOSS. iT WAS ALSO POSSIBLE IF YOU LOST AN ARM WORKING A MACHINE, THEY WOULD PAY YOU YOUR LAST CHECK AND SAY "GOODBYE, WE NEED WORKERS WITH BOTH ARMS!" AND YOUR L;AST CHECK IS ALL YOU GOT!.

Are there ANY seniors on this site answering this question? My mother is a member of AARP and not only does she receive many benefits, they also assist her when she needs an advocate. She hasn't purchased insurance, she is just a member. For those of you who have a parent or other member of the family that is a senior, seriously sit down with them and discuss this issue with them. Do not take second hand information and run with it. AARP has been an advocate for senior rights since its inception. I stand by it because AARP stands by mother.

I bailed out of AARP three years ago and am now with ASA which have better benefits and they do not contribute to organizations that do not support seniors. The AARP has some fat cats making policies while they drive around in flashy cars and live high on the hog at the seniors expense. Association of Retired People and American Seniors Association are a lot better than AARP because they are not ruining the country as AARP is by supporting the Administration who wants to cut seniors Medicare by 5 Million dollars. Ask you Mom is she supports that. AARP does.

AARP has supported the government health care reform from the very start. I joined in March and every correspondence I get from AARP asks for supporting comments about health care reform but never ask for any opposing comments.

If you need "opposing comments"", just ask the private insurance companies, they are the one which are going to lose. Remember that the cost of heath care is OUTRAGEOUS in the US, 17% of the GDP, vs. 8-10% in other rich counntries, which all have universal health care. A public option will help cut costs.

    None of the above

What I know is that now Republicans are getting angry because AARP disagrees with them. Its how Repubs are like to anyone who disagrees with them. I am not surprised at all. Typical of them, actually.

Of course, now there is SOOOOOME reason why AARP has " Always been a bad company." Even when the people say it, dont even know the full history of the company.

I fail to see why this should make anyone mad, I really do. What if say, your favorite RESTRAUNT for some reason, supported something Obama does. Would you never go there again? Would you never want to enjoy the restraunts good food again, all because of a political statement?

Try to explain that to your kids ( If you have any younger kids.) They'd be asking you why you and the family wont be going there, even when it might have been planned.

SOCIALISM IS AN ECONOMIC TERM WHEREBY THE GOVERNMENT OWNS AND CONTROLS THE MAJOR MEANS OF PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION, WITH FEW EXCEPTIONS. NO ONE IN OUR GOVERNMENT IS ADVOCATING THAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD SEIZE OR PURCHASE ALL OF THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION. THAT IS JUST A SCARE TACTIC TO DECEIVE THE PEPOPLE. HOWEVER, BEFORE HIS TERM ENDED BUSH WANTED TO BY SOME OF THE BANKS AND THE AIG, BUT, EVEN THAT WOULD NOT AMOUNT TO SOCIALISM.

THE REPUBLICANS WERE ALWAYS FOR THE CORPORATIONS AND BIG BUSINESS, NOT FOR THE WORKING MAN. THEY ALWAYS FIGHT WHATEVER IS ADVANCED IN FAVOR OF THE WORKING MAN. IN THE 60'S THEY WERE TRYING TO DO AWAY WITH UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION, AND ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO SABOTAGE MINIMUM WAGE HIKES, CLAIMING IT WILL CAUSE INFLATION. ECONOMIST DEFINE INFLATION AS BEING CAUSED BY: "TOO MUCH MONEY CHASING TOO FEW GOODS!". i DON'T KNOW OF ANY WORKING MAN GETTING PAID TOO MUCH MONEY; NOR ARE WE LOW ON GOODS! JUST CHECK IT OUT AT ANY WALMARTS! WHEN CLINTON WAS IN, HE HAD TWO OR THREE MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES, AND IT DID NOT RESULT IN ANY INFLATION PROBLEMS. HE LEFT US WITH A 2.6 BILLION DOLLAR BUDGET SURPLUS, AND NOT THE THE 11 TRILLION DEFICIT AND RECESSION THAT BUSH LEFT US! THE FACT IS THAT THIS RECESSION STARTED IN 2007, BUT THE BUSH GANG NEVER CRIED WOLF; THEY HUSHED IT UP UNTILL AFTER THE LAST PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.
