SodaHead Celebrates Green Week

Group Question :: Punk

What is the greatest punk album of all time?

Brian Kemp December 29, 2008 18:25:27

I've got a few favorites, but I'm looking for not only quality, but influence.

    Nearly every early punk band, as well as the majority of the ones to the current time, were heavily influenced by them.

    Yeah, they kind of changed the direction music was going in when it came out. Classic stuff, and still a good listen to this day, in my opinion.

    The Pistols were the first one I bought, and I loved it right from the get go. It's still great 30 years later.

    You really can't go wrong calling the Pistols the greatest, because it seems to have been really influential for a lot of bands. Check out the rest, there's not a bad one among them.

    Different people have different tastes, so I thought I'd see what other people thought. For me, Let's Go! brought me back to punk, after the late eighties and a lot of really bad music almost chased me away. I still loved the older stuff, but there was a lot of lousy punk going on for a while. I wore out that tape, a few times, over the course of a year, so for me, it's my favorite. Also, as a bassist, Matt Freeman is the best, and between Let's Go and the first self titled album, some of the greatest punk bass lines ever came off those two albums.

    Both great bands. Generator is my personal favorite by them, and Let's Go! by Rancid really brought me back to punk. A lot of it had gotten stale for a while, but they really seemed to be at the leading edge of revitalizing punk.

    Yeah, it was pretty kick ass how the Pistols raised hell in the UK.
    As far as talent was concerned, they could've used more of it haha, but I just loved the message and story behind all their albums and songs.

    Ahhh, I wish I could go back to the 70s; I'd love to see them live.

    I totally agree with you on the Ramones and London Calling, but London Calling was the third choice. A great album, in every sense of the word.
