Remember all the amazing bands that ruled over the 60-90's, well think of today's music now. Instead of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones... we have Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance, Instead of The Who and Pink Floyd... we have Coldplay and Linkin Park.
Remember when music used to have different meanings and thoughts... well now there are only three subject spoken about in music: Falling in Love, Breaking your Heart, and Having Fun/ Being Yourself...
Do you see what I see?

this is one of the most poorly constructed theories i have ever seen, you must know nothing about music because The Beatles always sang about love, the counter culture movement of the 60's was all about being yourself. Also, some of todays bands are influenced by bands from the time period you are talking about, such as Bullet For My Valentine, they are influenced by bands such as Metallica and Slayer. I will say that most rap gives modern music a bad name, cause all they talk about is sex, drugs, and a lot of other s***.View thread

as much as i think that rock music has digressed, i dont think Linkin Park and especially coldplay are examples of such
if anything the following bands are the only hope we have
YES rock is dying, but Radiohead, Coldplay, Oasis, Keane, The Switches and Linkin Park ae whats keeping it on life support

and i also think the music was so great because an entire generation was united against a cause (the vietnam war)
with out strife, passion left music a bit
without the common enemy of the war, the counter culture movement unraveled, aids became a consequence of such a wild uninhibited tri decade. money and materialism prevailed and the 90s became trashy money driven pop and boy bands,
it became absolute bubble gum v.s. underground
unfortunatly, materialism is proving to prevail
but some still fight it, which is why rock isnt totally dead yet
Aside from rap music...
I've found a TON of great new rock, metal, and alternative bands. The radio is no longer the place to go to find new music, you gotta look online.
Look to Europe, is what I tell them. Europe has the good bands now. It's because the general populace still enjoys that kind of music, so the bands cater to them by playing over there.
Europe most definitely, but even Canada has some great rock bands.
In my opinion, all the good music (or music I listen to), is the not-so-well-known stuff.
Radio doesn't do today's music justice, because they play the same music over and over, from the same like 15 artists. And don't hit the new bands nearly enough.
And none of the stations I listen to play new music from like new artists.
It's pretty disappointing.
So I usually just listen to my iPod.
