Is Pop Punk an oxymoron?

Thorn Brain August 09, 2008 08:17:36

[Based on a video project I'm working on of classic Punk albums. Ask me for details].

First of all, Punk was originally a stripped-down form of ROCK that focused on social and political, (often anarchic), topics. I don't see politics in Pop Punk, just teenage bull-angst. Both may be energetic, but Punk was aggressive.
"Pop" is largely a shortening of "Popular" (and the charts help to prove that). Punk wasn't (and should never have been) intended for accessibility and easy chart access.

    Yes

Whoa..I never thought about that before. Execlent point. I don't use the term "pop punk" anyway because the bands that are called that suck, and don't deserve the term punk
