- Country Music Hall of Famer George Jones isn’t fond of how pop-influenced the genre he loves has become in recent years. The 78-year-old “Choices” crooner has some harsh words for some of country’s modern day big acts, like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, who Jones accuses of “stealing our identity.”
“They’re definitely not traditional country music. It’s good to know that we still do traditional country music. Alan Jackson still does it, so does George Strait. We still have it, and there’s quite a few of us that are going to hope that it comes back one of these days.” ... Read full article »

I'm an old Country singer. Not nearly as old as George. But old compared to Taylor and Carrie. But if you can listen to Leann Rimes sing Blue, and tell me Patsy Cline wouldn't be proud. Then I would have my ears checked if I were you George. Now Taylor is not country. But she's a cute little chicky who comes across as genuine to a country audience. Her attitude sells her. I hope some of her country sweetness rubs off on the new fans. Because as new comers to the genre, they need to loose their city ass rudeness toward old folks and just blow it off what George says. But Carrie Underwood and Kelly Pickler and a lot of these young girls especially, are real honest to God country girls, and if they ain't singing pure country all the time, chances are they're being influenced by record company execs and the music machine. Plus, who doesn't want to show the world they're not a one trick pony? Go easy on them, and poor ol' George.View thread

You people need to take a look at rock. Rock has so many different sounds, its not just one thing. Country is the same. There's blue grass, and real twangy stuff, there's country rock, and hill billy, soul country, honky tonk and theres country pop. No music genre is just one thing. Embrace the versatility. - Ashley November 13, 2009 00:43:35

I don't consider Taylor Swift a country singer she is pop! And she didn't deserve to Win Entertainer of the Year either too soon. - +1 raves brandi November 12, 2009 19:43:18
I refuse to listen to any so called country these days. Its defiantly not the same as 20 or more years ago. And Taylor Swift should NOT have received anything from cma. Her music is not country. it is pop! - +1 raves Romanov November 12, 2009 18:31:36 (edited)
While I have nothing against people like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, Rascal Flatts, etc. etc. I don't like the direction they are taking country music. And it is even more annoying when they start taking the top honors from the true country music performers. I think they need a new category called Pop Country. Some of these acts are just pure pop anyway(Taylor Swift). - KIM November 12, 2009 17:13:30
If the music is beautiful I say just enjoy it and stop trying to catergorize it. Carrie and Taylor are great and deserve recognition. - animal Luva November 12, 2009 11:54:10
