Zach Wahls makes it hard to ignore the FACTS about being raised by two lesbian mothers.

Do we each not deserve to be judged by the content of our character, rather than our sexual orientation? Who are we to presume to know what is better for other people? Will Iowa even take this first-hand testimony to heart when voting on whether to discriminate against an entire group of people, based on who they choose to spend the rest of their life with?

Pure desperation to make a point with typical politician phrases. Sorry boy, whats with your father again??

Of course he used such phrases, he was addressing politicians. What did you expect, ebonics? Interpretive dance?

I'm pretty sure that desperation is a good word to describe what he is feeling. What if you woke up tomorrow, and your state was on the verge of writing discrimination into law...discrimination that affected the way your state treats YOU and your family? And one more thing, how is his father at all relevant here?

The question is: Do you want to open the door to make children public property or not.
We talk about self created issues here and it will get bigger with every step we make into the wrong direction. Yes he was taking to politicians and nothing more. He did not talk about the main issue regarding his parents. Sexual orientation and parenthood have nothing to do w/each other.

I'm not sure what you mean about making children public property. Could you elaborate?

I generally think that a child is first of all a product of its parents. Both of them.
Any other solution should involve close family members and no one else. Gay has nothing to do with it..... at all.

I believe his presentation was genuine and from the heart. Nor do I think it was it couched in political verbiage.

It was a public speech w/o any personal input. Just blabla as usual. He was using phrases as if he was selling tomatoes nothing else.

Thank you Zach for coming out as the grown child of two moms and having the courage to speak the truth.

he's a good speaker. what is it about homosexuality that draws so much hate from some people?

You know, I'm not sure, but I wonder about it a lot. In some cases, I think that thinking about the idea of homosexuality causes a lot of people to question their own sexuality (does that mean I could be gay, too?). I know, because when my mom came out, I asked myself that question. Most people are comfortable questioning their sexuality, and may even do so subconsciously, but there are some who find it so uncomfortable to entertain even the mere thought that they, too, could be gay that defensiveness and anger take hold, so the word "homosexuality" or even seeing a homosexual has negative connotations for that person. Then, they begin to look for evidence that justifies their negative position: "It's in the bible", "It's not natural", etc., etc.

Of course, I could be wrong, but that's just what I have observed. Cheers.

but it is natural, it's been seen and studied in nature for decades. do you think most of them have latent homosexual cravings that make them lash out, or do you think they find it disgusting because their parents did? i mean like my nephew who is only six but cries at spiders and flys because he's seen his mum do the same?

I'm aware that it's natural - I'm the daughter of a lesbian myself. I was referring to the way those who are homophobic talk, and one of their arguments is that it is unnatural. Of course it is completely natural, and homosexual behavior has been documented in hundreds of species. I think that being taught to hate homosexuality is part of it, but I know people who were raised with those teachings but have grown to accept homosexuals. It can definitely cause a person to have a predetermined opinion, if their minds are not open to adaptation.

    I agree.

To me, the intensity and emotion of the topic is befuddling - honestly. There must be a deeper and more meaningful reason for the visceral and ostentatious outrage demonstrated by Christians towards homosexuality - the outrage is so disproportionate as to be absurd.

Explain to me why homosexuality brings out more visual emotion in Christians on SodaHead than murder, rape, or theft. The effects of these crimes upon society are far greater than the perceived effects of homosexuality.

If the energy, emotion, and resources exerted by Christians on issues of homosexuality were redirected to rape prevention, domestic abuse shelters, and homeless shelters, the benefits to society would be far more salutary than efforts to marginalize homosexuals and homosexual behavior.

What a great speaker! He stated very well what those of us with gay parents already know: we're just like everyone else.
