Being gay as nothing to do with friendship. I don't mind gays and they are people just like you and me.
Society, in general, has been growing more tolerant of gays and I think it is a good thing. Back in the day, if you were gay, boy were you in trouble! I am glad I don't live in those days. Besides a best friend is a friend forever.

So long as I can make the other guy understand that I cannot requite his affection. And I'd probably try to "witness" to him.

Now if that best friend was a woman, the context would be a lot different. She would probably be telling me that *she* cannot requite *my* affection.

That actually happened. My best friend, of nearly 25 years, recently moved in with a lesbian lover. I certainly don't care. It doesn't change those things I like about her. People who obsess on the sex lives of others have little minds.
