Would You Spend $1,620 for a Slice of Will and Kate's Wedding Cake?

OK, we're a little bit curious to see if Will and Kate's "royal" wedding cake was really that much more delicious than the ones mere mortals serve at their weddings. But we still wouldn't spend $1,620 for a year-old slice. Four days after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first wedding anniversary, a piece of their eight-tiered fruit cake is going up for auction on Thursday with a starting bid of $162, the "Today" show reports (but the final price is expected to hit the high four figures).

The cake, which featured almost 900 frosting flowers, was served at a lunchtime reception for close friends and family, according to "Today." The slice that's up for grabs comes in a white and gold tin, along with a note that reads "With best wishes from TRH (Their Royal Highnesses) The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in celebration of the wedding of TRH the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge."

For your money, you'll also receive the 16-page "Order of Service" from Westminster Abbey, which includes the vows, hymns and prayers from the wedding. In 2008, one buyer paid $1,830 for a slice of Charles and Diana's wedding cake. Would you pay almost as much for a taste of modern royal life?

I can buy a very delicious whole cake in the United States for $20 or less, especially in N.Y. bakeries. I ate British food while in England; more show than taste with very small portions. In fact that wedding cake is bland looking.

You can get perfectly fine cake for $5 xD Or you can buy something actually useful for 1,620 bucks. I mean you can't eat the cake because it's a year old, so what would you do stare at it and brag that you got a year old cake?!?!? PSHHH I DON'T THINK SO

The British spend so much money on food but most of their cooking is very bland tasting. In reality most British have poor taste in fashion and food.

Oops I didn't mean to click yes well uh as I was saying, I mean really there could be a cake way better than that an anyway I would never waste my money on that crap. If it was paying for surgery and loved one to live I would say of course I would never let them die like that and refuse to pay for supplies to help him/her. http://www.infobarrel.com/med...

Why would anybody pay that most for a piece of cake when that money could help feed lots of hungry children in the USA not over seas some where.

Gold can be ingested in samll, tiny amounts; it regenerates organs and such.
The question said "spend", not "eat". Either way i will get the piece of cake and make some profits.
