Would You Spend $1,620 for a Slice of Will and Kate's Wedding Cake?

OK, we're a little bit curious to see if Will and Kate's "royal" wedding cake was really that much more delicious than the ones mere mortals serve at their weddings. But we still wouldn't spend $1,620 for a year-old slice. Four days after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first wedding anniversary, a piece of their eight-tiered fruit cake is going up for auction on Thursday with a starting bid of $162, the "Today" show reports (but the final price is expected to hit the high four figures).

The cake, which featured almost 900 frosting flowers, was served at a lunchtime reception for close friends and family, according to "Today." The slice that's up for grabs comes in a white and gold tin, along with a note that reads "With best wishes from TRH (Their Royal Highnesses) The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in celebration of the wedding of TRH the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge."

For your money, you'll also receive the 16-page "Order of Service" from Westminster Abbey, which includes the vows, hymns and prayers from the wedding. In 2008, one buyer paid $1,830 for a slice of Charles and Diana's wedding cake. Would you pay almost as much for a taste of modern royal life?

I would be out of my cotton-pickn' mind to waste my money on a piece of stale cake from British Royalty. I have better things to spend my money on.

If I had money falling out of my ass I wouldn't pay that much for any cake or anything related to that over-hyped wedding. Nice looking cake and I'm sure it was probably tasty but no way!

DO YOU KNOW WHAT I COULD BUY FOR $1620?

Lets see. Walmart cakes (which are probably just as good) cost.. uh.. lets say $20 (I actually think that is quite much).

With $1620, you could buy 81 Walmart cakes instead of one slice of that cake.

I wouldn't pay £1000 for it, nor would most people, but apparently there are those who will, and a great deal more. Surprising as it might seem to some of you, you get some very rich people who are monarchists as it happens. :)

It took William long enough to find out, he was probably getting pressure as they`ll be wanting another heir. I cant see Charlie ever getting on the throne. It`ll be William + he needs a well bred girl, don`t think there`s too many knocking about these days.

I doubt it's meant to be eaten but to be saved - much like many regular couples save the top teir of the wedding cake.

Tradition has it, that you freeze the top layer and on your anniversary, you eat it.
  • katy.isodo PM 2012/05/03 23:13:16
    katy.isodo
For some yes, others just have it to save - I've even heard of some people having it bronzed like they've done with babies shoes - a bit extreme to me, but eh.

  • katy.isodo Chaoski... 2012/05/11 17:36:02

I agree - but in this case it's not for the 'cake' but for having something from the famous couple that is obviously so cherished.

I sorry about what about a cake is so cherished .... It meant to be eaten and than make you feel fat about what you just ate.... we can always pretend about where the cake came from... anyways thanks for your comment

Even if I was so rich I could wipe my ass with $100 bills I still wouldn't blow over a grand and a half on a piece of damn cake when I could get an awesome ice cream cake for $10-20.
