OK, we're a little bit curious to see if Will and Kate's "royal" wedding cake was really that much more delicious than the ones mere mortals serve at their weddings. But we still wouldn't spend $1,620 for a year-old slice. Four days after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first wedding anniversary, a piece of their eight-tiered fruit cake is going up for auction on Thursday with a starting bid of $162, the "Today" show reports (but the final price is expected to hit the high four figures).

The cake, which featured almost 900 frosting flowers, was served at a lunchtime reception for close friends and family, according to "Today." The slice that's up for grabs comes in a white and gold tin, along with a note that reads "With best wishes from TRH (Their Royal Highnesses) The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in celebration of the wedding of TRH the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge."
For your money, you'll also receive the 16-page "Order of Service" from Westminster Abbey, which includes the vows, hymns and prayers from the wedding. In 2008, one buyer paid $1,830 for a slice of Charles and Diana's wedding cake. Would you pay almost as much for a taste of modern royal life?

+2Rich get richer and poor get poorer, bro. It's not like they're targeting people in third-world countries with this stuff. Clearly, it's to adhere to those who can actually *afford* it. There are millions of people who can. You know the 99%? The 1% comprises more than 1mill of America's population. Of those, how many would be willing to pay 1/1000 their yearly salary for a luxury? Probably most of them.reply - sockpuppet Johnath... 2012/05/04 21:52:11
Pimping the OWS thing, bro? The rich get poorer and the poor get richer in this country, too. In any case, nobody can afford this. Wasting money is a mug's game.reply - TheNightFly 2012/05/04 05:57:25 (edited)No+2How do we know it's their original wedding cake if they didn't cut it? They could have had two identical cakes made, cut one in private and give the second one up for auction as if it were the one and only.reply
