apparently some people view shy people as those who keep things to themselves, and themselves only. They say it's selfish because they're worried about what other think of them.

IT is more of a discomfort with being in situations of crowds ..
(NOT Selfish at all .. just naturally tend to be more comfortable in smaller groupings).

Why would they be? Individual people can be selfish, but I wouldn't say shy people as a whole.

That's what I thought, but apparently some people view shy people as those who keep things to themselves, and themselves only. They say it's selfish because they're worried about what other think of them. Being a shy person myself, I'm worried if that's what people really see me as, it's such a negative character trait. I don't mean to be selfish, and I'm sure no one else does either...

lol um, well those people don't make much sense.
I don't think many people view shy people as selfish. I think most people view shy people as... well, shy. haha.
Shy is one character trait, while selfish is another. And you can certainly have one without the other.
