Not qualified to answer as all I had were a few budgies & goldfish when young. But aware that some folk get more attached to them than actual people.

Case in point: years ago, a family dog (breed ???) killed and patially devoured a toddler. When the mother was notified of the death she didn't react very much but when told the dog had to be put down she went BALLISTIC. IMNSHO, she should have been spayed

'Pets' in reality are small furry children who walk on four legs instead of two.

I'm 26 tomorrow, with no children of my own, no husband, no boyfriend, no parents. My pets are all I really have. So yes, I would risk my life to save them in a heart beat because right now it's not just their lives I'd be saving, it's my life too. Right now, my pets *are* my life.

My family constantly says in case of emergency to get myself out first because I can "always replace a pet but never replace myself."
When you think about it, though, you get attached to your pet, and it's like your own family. You wouldn't leave a family member behind, would you?
