Would you rather be rich and sad or happy and poor?

The more I become consumed by the time and stress it takes to make money the more I feel like I am less connected with the world. So I thought which extreme would be better.

The question answers itself. Who wants to be unhappy? The problem is that most people inherently believe that having more stuff will make them more happy. It won't. Having lots of stuff leads us to wanting even more stuff. And in the end, we become a slave to our possessions. What freedom there must be to own very little and be able to travel freely about unencumbered by things.

Being poor is a bitch.
Give me the money.
I can handle it from there.
Once rich I can decide what entertains me, and decide my relationships, and my comfort.

I' d be happier alone with nice furniture and great meals plus all the technology capitolism can buy. Being poor and happy is impossible if I do not have access to my technology. smirk. Friends are based on how you treat others. But after a full life...and disappointments...give me the money. I will take it from there.

I was once asked in a poll if I would rather be rich or poor. I shocked the pollster by saying poor. When he asked me why I said that when you are poor you know who your friends are. Rich people are jealous of each other, equate possessions with self worth and eat their own.

I don't think you can be rich and sad, and if you are, you're more than likely mentally unstable. Honestly, i despise rich people who sit around and fabricate these so called problems, its a slap in the face, and blatantly disrespectful to those us us with real problems....like piles of bills, and no money.

The way I see it people will always have problems no matter on their financial status. I also believe that everyone can become rich once their mind is truly put to the task. Sure I might sound like some law of attraction guru but its true.

:) he was asking about poverty, though, not being completely without money :) the poor would have money, just not anywhere near as much as the wealthy :) you wouldnt be okay shopping at walmart instead of sachs of fifth avenue? :)

i've known being unhappy for longer than i wanted, MC... it's definitely not a life i'd wish on anyone. i hope you never have to see unhappiness in your life time :(

when someone says poor, i don't picture that as shopping at walmart. i picture that as getting clothes for goodwill and going to food pantries. there's a big difference between being poor and just getting by on life. walmart in my mind is not a store for poor people. but i can still see it your way.

I've already made that choice, I was married to a woman who was going to inherit a few million but she made me miserable so I left her. I wouldn't say I'm poor but definitely not rich.
