If God is said to be among us and within us then killing man would be killing God, so no.

My Goddess loves humanity, with all of its differences, ugly behaviors, and joyous wonders. She would never even ask me to end someone else's life. If I thought she did, I would immediately visit a psychiatrist.

America's leadership has shown that they are willing to kill for their God. They haven't been willing, though, to admit that corporations are their God.

Jesus died to save all the screw ups in the world, including me. If Thou Shall Not Kill means just that, then it's immoral & criminal to do it.

God is meant to be about spreading peace & goodwill to one & all, so why should I be thinking about killing? Whichever or whatever God we believe in, God is meant to bring peace not war & death

As a person believing in Christianity, no. I feel I do have a God given right to self defense, so the situation is important in this question.

My eclectic religion is orthopraxic, which means it's focused on correct practices, better choices of power, ethics, equality and finding better things to do than kill people. Plus I define both deity/divine and worship very differently.

I don't have a God. Yet I talk with many Deities on a regular basis. I don't worship them though, it just encourages them. *smirks* I do believe in Jesus (Eshoo Nazaretha) and in The Father. However, I do not see The Father as a god. Nor do I see Jesus as the son of a god. To me, The Father is the Source of all Light, and Jesus was the Incarnation of Spirit itself. So to me, Jesus and his Heavenly Father were *far* greater than a God and a Demigod. And the New Testament? The rantings of Saul of Tarsus as well as stories told *about* Jesus generations after his death, written down and canonized by the Greek Orthodox Church. The Greek Orthodox Church treated the texts as sacred stories, nothing more. The Roman Catholic Church then made the text 'infallible', however, all sins were forgivable, with a donation. The Protestant reformation then removed the forgiveness that Jesus (Eshoo) taught. Then there was a radical christian cult that was exiled from Europe, the Puritans, and they came to the US. It was them to created the ideas that a) marriage is sacred, b) marriage is not for the political gain of the two involved families, and c) homosexuals are not to be tolerated. This goes against Jesus' teachings. All American christian churches are infected with Puritan radicalism. This...

It was them to created the ideas that a) marriage is sacred, b) marriage is not for the political gain of the two involved families, and c) homosexuals are not to be tolerated. This goes against Jesus' teachings. All American christian churches are infected with Puritan radicalism. This is where we get Fundamentalists. In the time of Leonardo da Vinci, marriage was arranged by the parents in order to bring greater prestige and power to both families. It had nothing to do with love or religion. After the children were fully raised, it was perfectly acceptable for the man or woman to engage in homosexual affairs. Since Leonardo da Vinci was an orphan, he was free to indulge in his homosexuality his whole life, and he was still considered a good Catholic. So the religious fundamentalism in the US is because of the radical Puritans that were exiled from Europe. As for the Old Testament? It's nowhere near an accurate translation of the Torah. Learn Hebrew and read the Torah and ignore the Old Testament. And as for the killing bit? Well, sins that are forgivable should always be forgiven. However, unforgivable sins should not and cannot be forgiven, in this world or the next. So I would kill someone who knowingly commits unforgivable sins, but only in self defense. If the person has only committed forgivable sins, or has only committed unforgivable sins because they are too damaged to know any better, I'll defend myself, but only to disarm and restrain.

Violation of the ten commandments are forgivable sins. Which means if you violate them, simply seek forgiveness from yourself, and you will be forgiven in heaven. That's what Jesus taught. It's committing unforgivable sins that will damn you to the abyss and oblivion.

My god is Gandhi's "God of Truth". Unlike Gandhi, however, I do believe there are circumstances that justify killing. For Taoists, the wise are ruthless...when necessary.
