An 18-year-old high school senior recently won the lotto -- and now he'll be getting paid $1,000 a week for the rest of his life. Would you quit your job or keep working if you got a $1,000 paycheck every week?

Your not going to live large on $52K a year. Keep working. New England has a new lottery that pays the winner $1,000 a day for life. That another deal. 1000 a day for life

My work isn't finished yet. Plus, I love doing it. Let me give you an example.

On Sunday, Dan was suffering for great pain because his cancer had spread to several bones. He could feel it gnawing. By the end of the day, his cancer pain had been reduced quite a bit and he was able to sleep for the first time in months.

By Wednesday, he had almost no pain. All of it was gone except for one shoulder. He can now walk without having to hold onto things.

You can find out more about it on my hubpage. I don't charge for the information - it is free. If you want to send me $100 as a gift - it's worth more than $10,000 - I'd gratefully accept it.

Working keeps you grounded, and graces you with a sound mind. Working also keeps you connected with people and able to set good examples and work ethics for the young people in your life. It's not always about the windfalls.

YES........$52,000 a year is not a million dollars a year !! I would consider it a "little extra" for spending money

you aint going very far with 1000 bucks a week, unless you planning on eating out of trash cans and sleeping in the street when you travel around the world.

I travel now and I don't make $1000 a week at my job (if you convert dollars to pounds I make just over half that)…lol I wouldn’t continuously be on the road, don’t think I could cope with that I’m too old... For example this year I’ve spent two weeks in Sri Lanka at 5 star hotel all inclusive, two weeks in the States visiting my family and in October I’m popping over to Poland for a week. Staying in a rather nice Hotel in Krakow and touring Auschwitz and the Wieliczka Salt Mine. My husband and I go on one major trip a year and a couple of little ones. Planning for a trip to Port Elizabeth South Africa in 2015. I’d travel more but unfortunately my employer only gives me 6 weeks off a year. If I had a $1000 a week to play with I’d definitely be going on a trip a month or every other month. Although I shouldn't scoff at 6 weeks vacation a year...that was one of the perks from moving from the US to the UK.

Actually, if you travel smart it's not that difficult at all. I've been traveling all over the place this past month and spending far more than I ought to, and even then it hasn't amounted to much over a thousand a week.

It'll probably be 600'ish after taxes and who wants to live on 2400 a month forever if you don't have to?

Yes, I would, because it would be taxed to end up being about 600 dollars a week, which is about minimum wage if you work 40-50 hours a week. It would simply make me more wealthy and be a nice supplement to what ever job I would be doing at the time.

Why would a settle for half, when I could have a whole?

  • Jess bettyboop 2012/06/15 19:09:14

The sad thing is that with the current state of the economy, people actually think 4k a month is being "rich" and "well off". I guess the average income a month now is 1-2k.

Every thing is so high, gas, utilities, groceries and taxes for everything. Not to mention housing and clothing. If you have kids in college they are always needing help and health insurance is crazy high, plus insurance on your house and cars. It's never ending.

I realize you are only 17, so you are probably unware of what life costs. $4000 a month is not much, especially if you plan to raise a family. With the currency values dropping and only expected to continue along with corresponding inflation, that 4000 dollars will, in a couple of years, be worth much less then it is today.

No. I'd leave that job to someone who needs it! I'd only do volunteer type jobs. To keep working and collecting a salary when someone else could REALLY use that salary to provide for their family would be selfish,in my opinion.
