Unless you happen to be a licensed health care professional. all you have to do now is chest compressions after calling 911. The determination has been made that the blood remains sufficiently oxygenated for long enough for EMS to get there and intubate them. So yes, save a life. You don't have to kiss anyone.

Using the new AHA guidelines of hands only CPR. Basically, you are only giving compressions and not stopping to give the 2 breaths. They say that the compression of the chest is enough to move air in and out of your lungs if done right. hands only cpr

Because I carry a little CPR mouthpiece:
    CPR mouthpiece
in my EM kit....that way I can help when I can without risking my health.

Only half; I would do compressions only unless there was a one-way breathing mask.

Weellll sometimes a person is bleeding or people do not want to have mouth to mouth contact with a stranger let alone someone that does not bath regularly...I know it sounds crass but there is a bit of self preservation there.
I carry a EM kit with with a small mouth piece for CPR and gloves to watch out for my health (I have a few people who depend on me being healthy) AND be able to help.

Then maybe the myth that all homeless people live on the streets and are dirty needs to be dispelled. That was my issue. You make a very valid point, but not all homeless people fit into that box. That is why I found the question stupid.

I see what you are saying. In our area we get a lot of transient(sp?) people and LOTS of homeless people with drug problems, crank, meth, and many have transmitable diseises open sores on the mouth, face, ect. A growing population of family types. Most people picture the druggy type people when they think of homeless people which would lead to an aversion ....I think. Not that they would not want to help them because they had no home. At least I would hope....

Of course, would also take the person to a hospital. Often hospital staff will get in touch with resources that could help a homeless person. Many strangers who pass homeless on streets, don't realize they can make a phone call to Social Service Dept. in that area. There are many assistance programs not being used. Handing a few dollars is very temporary. Police just move them around. More citizens should take action with just a few phone calls. Presidential Nominees waste over millions on election campaigns. This money can be used productively on U.S. economy.
