Not only having the feeling of other people looking at me, but having the host(ess) having to sit just one person somewhere. Seems like a waster of space or something. I suppose the only difference is if the restaurant had a bar.

But....I don't go out much anyway....but the type of 'restaurants' I usually go to alone are the 'sink-into-the-corner-booth-a... and 'people watch' kind! LOL!!!

I, for the most part, don't really like to dine alone but I have before and didn't feel out of place. I agree with the person who said sometimes it's nice.

Once I went to a busy restaurant by myself and was seated in a center table surrounded by full tables with families and friends. I am never paranoid but I felt that everyone was looking at me solo and judging what I was eating. Now if alone I will go to a lunch counter.

I think it is pretty sad that we live in a place where people are judged.. or feel judged, just for living. This is taught.. like judging what type of car a person has, etc.

Well part of the staring was that there was a cultural difference and maybe some cultures don't go out to eat alone especially women. Maybe I made a bad piggy choice having pancakes,eggs,strawberries and potatos with a soda. Not healthy maybe.

No, no .. you don't need to feel apologetic for what you choose or for eating alone. That's what I'm trying to say that it is some societal thing that developed over time and we shouldn't have to feel self-conscious.

I wonder how many people are with others (give into the pressure) for the sake of not having to be looked at or "pitied". It's ridiculous, similar to being judged for choosing not to be married or raising children.

I always feel awkward alone. lol. Like if I'm waiting to meet up with someone somewhere and I'm waiting alone, I get all nervous, like people are looking. Haha.

I never liked to do that. If I really have to go eat by myself at a restaurant I either bring a book or a sketchpad so I can ignore the people who stare at me.

I've done it many times, often when traveling alone. I take a book, order a glass of wine and a nice meal, relax and enjoy.
