Would You Ever Try a Friendship Matchmaking Site?

These days, matchmaking sites aren’t just for romantic relationships. In the last couple of years, a number of websites have emerged with the goal of helping facilitate new friendships. Most (but not all) of them are geared toward women: SocialJane.com, GirlFriendCircles, Girlfriend Social, Companion Tree, etc.

Whether you’ve moved to a new city, recently divorced, or just retired, these sites can help you meet new people who share common interests. The sites work a lot like traditional online dating: you post a profile, search the database, send messages, and eventually meet up in person. Some sites charge a subscription fee and others survive on advertising revenue.

Thousands of people have embraced these sites, but others believe the concept is contrived and awkward. In all likelihood, as time goes on, friendship matchmaking sites will lose their negative stigma, just like online dating websites before them. But right now, we still prefer to make friends the old-fashioned way.

What about you SodaHeads? Would you ever try a friendship matchmaking site?

I have made friends before via Chat rooms sites (aka: before Social Networking sites existed) and I am still friends with a few of those friends I have met.

Not for making friends anyway. I wouldn't go to a site specifically for that. Chat rooms and what not?

Of course I would, I use normal dating sites as friendmaking sites already... LOLL. And on top of that, there are too many morons in the world contributing to my shortage of friends :P

    Take care,

Ironically, the friendship sites are geared towards women, when friendship should know of no gender. Hmm.. Gets you to think, doesn't it? :P

I think when it comes to friendship it matters more about the times you have together than it does what you have in common. I have friends that are the total opposite of me but we are good friends because we remember the fun times together and the memories. On paper we shouldn't be as close as we actually are.

It's always been difficult for me to make friends, so I think something like this would be cool.
