Would You Ever Try a Friendship Matchmaking Site?

These days, matchmaking sites aren’t just for romantic relationships. In the last couple of years, a number of websites have emerged with the goal of helping facilitate new friendships. Most (but not all) of them are geared toward women: SocialJane.com, GirlFriendCircles, Girlfriend Social, Companion Tree, etc.

Whether you’ve moved to a new city, recently divorced, or just retired, these sites can help you meet new people who share common interests. The sites work a lot like traditional online dating: you post a profile, search the database, send messages, and eventually meet up in person. Some sites charge a subscription fee and others survive on advertising revenue.

Thousands of people have embraced these sites, but others believe the concept is contrived and awkward. In all likelihood, as time goes on, friendship matchmaking sites will lose their negative stigma, just like online dating websites before them. But right now, we still prefer to make friends the old-fashioned way.

What about you SodaHeads? Would you ever try a friendship matchmaking site?

No, with all the people in this world why would I go to matchmaking site? Matchmaking sites are like a box of chocolates, you don't know what you are getting. :))

Friendships are great and if my cats weren't such suitable replacements for humans maybe I'd register.

I get how a romantic relationship might be hard to find. But a friendship? Come on.

My wife: "Hun, what are you doing?
Me: "Oh, nothing dear, just checking out this matchmaking site to find friends"
My wife: "Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and say ____and__what_-___no___absolu...

You get the idea....somehow I see this as a gateway to infidelity, only, if you have to go to a matchmaking site for friends; clearly you need to get out more and second, it's called FACEBOOK.

Grace to you, Glory to God!

You can't make a friend by clicking a request "accept as friend" if you find one true lasting friendship in your life you are fortunate.

I tried that, just looking for friends with similar interests and...people were really just looking to get laid. Ugh.

    May others have better luck.

I can make friends on the internet but I won't go out of my way to go on a site just find one. Especially wouldn't pay either.
    If that makes any sense.

Why not? I've made a few good friends online.

And sometimes I just feel like my friends I know personally at school and whatnot are just not great friends and all and I need someone else to vent to.

Plus they benefit people like myself that find it hard to make new friends in person because we have a difficult time striking up a conversation with strangers.
However, I must say that I would definitely NOT pay to be a part of such a website. Heck, I've made at least 3 random, but good friends just on Facebook by finding them on pages in which we shared a common interest. Why pay for something I can do easily for free?

Not me personally, I interact with enough people on a daily basis to not need it. I'm sure for those who operate isolated from others or have just moved to a new state/country this would come in very handy.

I met my current wife going on 13 years due to Match.com
