I have a tattoo and its the Bunga Raya, its right on my rib cage, and the reason I got it is because it represents my mothers birth country (Malaysia) and its a beautiful flower (The Hibiscus Flower). And yes I would get another one, I have plans for them for not the simple fact that they are "cool" for the fact that they represent me and my culture.

Someday I would like one, but I feel that I am too fat right now to have one. It would be weird looking if I lost weight unevenly and it hung wrong. I have a custom idea, the 4 elements at the proper corners between my shoulder blades surrounding a vine-y pentacle with a background of forking lightning. Big, painful, but beautiful and I want it to look right.

i have 2, but they're in places that unless i want you to see them, you won't - the arch of my foot and on my side/under my arm but my bra covers it.

i think there's nothing worse than 'tramp stamps' or tattoos that show in uniform. and i like that i don't have to consider my clothing in order to cover them. i have a friend who has angel wings across her shoulders - she can't wear beautiful dresses/strapless/halterneck etc without having that monstrosity on show.

If they are visible. It is very rare that you don't get hired to a good job if you can't see the tatt. But you are right some jobs don't but that does not mean its stupid.

Well, it will get all ugly by the time you get old, plus you'll suddenly get bored of it, in my opinion, henna tattoos are better.

Fair enough. I do agree with that. But I know the consequences of it and I would do it anyway. Henna is just semi permanant ink right? I've always been curious but never looked into it.

Because it is for me, not anyone else. I don't get it because I want others to see it. I get it because it is mine to have.

i am 100% with you on this. i have 2 - they're for me, no one else. they're in places that unless i want you to see them, you won't. they have meaning to me and are representative of the people i love most so i will always have them with me. i have my kids names and my mother's service number (in roman numerals). meaningful, personal, and carefully placed. i don't see anything wrong with that.

My point was that calling it stupid or "junk" was childish. Not that not getting one was. I respest that you find your body beautiful I don't respect being insulted since I very well plan to do one in loving memory of my dad. Its insulting and honestly hurtful and I'm sure some people don't even realize it which is why I point it out.

Many family members have tattoos, one has Dad on his arm, another has his wife's name on his arm. No one was insulting you, I just gave my opinion, I respect yours, hope you do mine. No sense in getting upset about a comment here on SH. We all think differently, doesn't make you right or me right.

I change my mind too much to have something permanently etched on my body. The what if I wont like it or regret it in a few years always is a problem.

I had turned away many good qualified people seeing employment in my division all because of our no tattoo corporate policy.

Many other corporations have the same policy. We deal with the public all the time & tattoos are concidered unprofessional. Image or perception is #1.

Tattoos can cripple a good person for life & limit them to minimum wage jobs.

yeah but do you turn them away just for having a tattoo or because you can see it? there's a difference. i have 2 tattoos but just looking at me, you wouldn't know that. if it's 100% no tattoos, then i think that's stupid. if it's just for visible ones, then i understand that.

You do realize A LOT of people do it for loved ones they lost in memory and its insulting to say it is stupid. Its fine if you don't like it I get that but see if from someone who has lost her dad and wants to do that.
