A man from southern Israel divorced his wife this week because she had brought 550 cats into their home.

The husband, apparently not a cat lover, told the Rabbinical Court in Beersheba that he was unable to sleep in his bedroom because the surface of the marital bed was constantly covered with cats who refused to lie on the floor.

The man, in his divorce request, complained that the cats also blocked his access to the bathroom and did not allow him to prepare meals in the kitchen, the Hebrew daily Maariv reported Wednesday. When he sat to eat, cats jumped onto the table and stole his food.

The couple attempted reconciliation at the behest of the rabbinical court. The wife, however, was unable to part from her cats… and preferred to part from her husband.

I think she needs help.

300 cats should be enough for anyone. If he had a sense of humor, he could have registered as a charity. And he certainly should have been allowed to make her keep them outside the bedroom. Maybe he's as neutered as some of the cats.

As that house would very quickly become very unsanitary, on on acreage it wouldn't matter as much as a confined space.

I have one cat and sometimes I am amazed how stinky her litter box can be, over 500 cats would be unimaginable for an odor.

I would have her remove all the cats from the house cause I dont want cat fur all over everywhere. That I will have to clean up for plus the odor and the pee and poop all over in my house. No way at all. I'm a dog person.

I believe I would have left before the house hit 550 cats. But if my husband did that, I would assume he would be trying to kill me since I'm allergic.

They don't have to be inside the house and about the food... dry food is cheap! But it would be difficult for sure!

It is inhumane to keep that many cats, and if you're not keeping them inside, I hope you have an entirely closed in yard, or they will just be an infestation on the neighborhood. Dry food is not that cheap when you're feeding 550 cats. How do you keep track of 550 cats? How do you notice when 1 out of 550 cats is sick? How do you know when 1 out 550 cats is missing or not? How do you clean 550 cats? How do you handle the liter of 550 cats?

look cats are born in the nature so they don't need closed yard, every neighborhood has cats and yes i can't know if one of them is sick or missing but they are going to have a better life with me than alone on the streets with no food and lots of people kicking them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If my spouse knows that I'm not a cat lover but would bring a cat to our shared home, moreover 550 cats, I would think my spouse actually want to get rid of me. So, yes, I would divorce, that woman wanted that too, she chose to let the man than the cats go, it tells a lot about her love for the relationship & where her priorities are.

HOLY...well...CATS! I'd start with therapy for my spouse, first. To find out WTH is going on. If that didn't work, yeah...I'd leave. I love animals but there is NO freaking way I'd live with 550 cats. That's insanity.

I'm inclined to think I would... I mean, if I loved my partner, I'd try to get them some mental help and find homes for the cats, but could only put up with so much.
