Would You Date Someone Who's Unemployed?

Not only will being unemployed affect your bank account, it will affect your love life, too -- especially if you're male. A whopping 75 percent of women say they are unlikely to date a guy who is out of a job, according to a poll from dating service It's Just Lunch.

unemployed

More specifically, 33 percent of women said they would NOT go out with someone who is unemployed, even on one date, and other 42 percent said "Maybe" with the caveat, "I wouldn't want to throw a lot of time into it unless they had a game plan for getting back on track." Only 4 percent said "Of course" and 21 percent said "Yes. But I'd be curious to see how they're keeping occupied in the meantime."

Meanwhile, almost two-thirds of men were OK with dating an unemployed woman, with 19 percent having no reservations at all and 46 percent saying they would definitely date a jobless gal.

Our friends at How About We aren't overly shocked by the poll results, but think women should be more open-minded. "To women, having a job is huge, and I understand. Not because I want a guy to be rolling in benjamins and buying me stuff, but because having a job is a sign that you have your sh*t together and care about stuff and are ambitious and are working toward something, etc.," writes one female blogger.

She continues, "But! Obviously (especially today), people are between jobs all the time. I have a friend who pretty much quits his job whenever he feels like it and then travels to Iceland for two weeks and then comes back and easily finds another job. Some people can do that." Would you date someone who's unemployed?

I am not sure it is right to characterize a woman who wants a guy she dates to have some money as a gold digger. However, if she wants a rich guy and she is not rich herself she most certainly is a gold digger or even, I daresay, a prostitute.

    I think that's a completely fair judgement.
Requiring a man to have a job is one thing, but requiring them to have money is another.

I think some women would require him to have some money because they don't want to be a sugarmama. That is reasonable.

Men will date women who are unemployed -- but females will NEVER date a man who's between jobs. Reveals where their TRUE allegiance lies -- love of money. And we all know what love of money is the root of, don't we?

Hello, anybody notice that the Repugnicans skewered the economy in 2007 and it is barely beginning to improve? Think, now. 3 million jobs lost to off-shoring and recession means that number of people unemployed. Anyone who doesn't take that into account is not worth dating anyway.

The democrat-controlled congress were the ones who skewered the ecomony in 2007. 4 times, Bush attempted to pass fiscally-responsible legislation, and all four times, he was overrulled by the leftist, democrat-controlled congress. Blame where blame is due.

Bush wouldn't know fiscally-responsible legislation if it bit him in the butt.

I take it you would not not date him because he has no money to spend on you but because you would always be spending money on him. That is reasonable.

A good amount of women think they don't have to work anyway and that it's a man's responsibility to do support them, and I have no issue with supporting someone I'm with, it's when they feel they don't have to do anything at all and still have their lives taken care of that bothers me.

If I'm going to work all day to keep you happy, you're going to cook and clean for me.
If we both work, we can share the responsibilities of cooking and cleaning.
If you don't like either of those options, you can find someone else.

Amen, Brother! Notice that the ones who answered 'yes' to this question are men -- and the ones who answer 'no' are women? Very telling...

I answered no because I once supported an abusive man, who stole from me and my kids. I'm not doing so again. I don't expect a man to support me. I have a job. I won't support another man.

Yes, it is. The fact is that money is simply more important to women and when it comes to dating many do kind of have the mentality of a prostitute. Not all, but many. Those that object, need to honestly answer this question. If a man spends a lot of money on you, don't you feel obligated or more inclined to put out than if he does not? If you can HONESTLY answer no, you are a virtuous woman. If not, you are a prostitute. All guys have to do is meet your price and they are in. Literally. Just saying. Oh, and the same applies to guys who women spend money on.

I wouldn't hold that against her I'm sure she would be trying. It's easy to be there when things are good. Its when things are slow when you see what a person is made of.

Once you agree on a price, is the hooker still unemployed and does that technically count as a date?

That's cold but that is always an option for the unemployed. Not a good option but an option nevertheless.

Being unemployed doesn't mean you don't have money. And besides, as long as the person is trying to find work, I don't see a problem with it...
