Would you choose to have your baby at home?

Mamaknows 2012/01/28 21:30:39
Homebirth with a midwife is what I want to or have done.
Hospital is where I would or have gone.
Birth center is where I would or have.
I have done both.

Or at the hospital?
Or at a Birthing center?
If you have had your babies ....
What have you done in the past?
Please no meaness about what others choose or have done!
For myself I had my son at home with a midwife(but saw a OB throughout) my husband, and my MIL no meds and it was AMAIZING:) Then I planned another hb with my daughter but had problems and had to be induced in the hospital...with an epidural(LOVED the epi!).
I would choose hb over the hospital any day but is nice to know when there is a problem they are there...I just HATE the hospitals with a passion.
What about you?

I would like to do a home birth someday because I would like to be in a surrounding I'm familiar with especially when I'm going through extreme stress and/or pain. Also I want to go natural without drugs to feel everything that is happening. If there are complications,I'll only go to the hospital because it is Plan B if there are problems.

I loved my homebirth. Labor was a satisfying task which I am grateful I chose to feel fully. The release at the end when I was pushing felt so good and empowering. No one ever told me where I needed to be, to change a position I was in. I pushed my son out without anyone muttering any directions. It was me, my baby and a spiritual force working together without interference and it was beautiful!

I seriously considered having my kids at home, but ended up going to the hospital due to the circumstances of my pregnancies.

I'm Dutch. The views on giving birth at home are rather different than lets say the U.S.

A very big difference is that the Dutch consider childbirth as something natural, not an illness. It should be treated as an natural process.
I placed this link because this woman gives in short a lot of information.

I have no children do I have no personal experience in the matter, but if I would have I would chose for the homebirth.

I am so sorry for your loss! That is devastating. There are babies that die because they were born in a hospital though as well unfortunately, some from overused medications such as cytotec and others synthetic drugs. Also, in hospitals with e en the best care and technology a percentage of babies will die. This is a harsh reality. But this is just information to show others that homebirth is not the problem not to in any way dismiss your loss or anger towards your homebirth situation. I could never imagine the pain you feel and my heart goes out to you.

Thanks, that is nice of you! The doctors could have saved our baby if it was in the hospital.

I had mine in the hospital because no one had homebirths when my daughter was born. My cousin had home births after having difficult times in the hospital. I just am glad my daughter was born healthy

I had my first two in a hospital and the last two at home. A midwife and my mother delivered the third one. My aunt, a retired OB nurse, and my mother delivered the last one. I loved having them at home. It was a much more positive experience.

I had all mine natural and the two at home were much quicker and easier. My mother was a lay midwife of sorts. She delivered about two dozen babies, one was a breech. My grandmother delivered me.

Since all mine were born in a hospital, I can only say what I would do if I had it to do over. A birthing center makes sense, hospitals are for sick people.

I loved it! It was the most natural thing in the world for us. I was able to walk around and do what I felt I needed to do....very simple and relaxing so from that it was a couple of pushes and he was out. Less the 7 hours total with him and the pain got overwhelming at the last 30mins....but then I had my hubby and my MIL there to help focus and pray(sounds silly to some people but it helped me tremendously) then after holdin him to ny breast and taking a shower in my clean shower and laying down in my bed with my son and husband right there ...perfect. Nothing in words can explain how powerful, how wonderful it all was. I recomend it:)

I had high risk pregnancies both times, so it was safer for all concerned to deliver at the hospital.
