Had a guy build my pool room.Did a sloppy job and came to the job drunk at 9 AM in the morning 24 years ago. That will never happen again. It was a friend's friend.

While I doubt that a little drink is going to hinder their ability to work, I don't know their tolerance either! If I'm paying them, I'd expect them to save the liquor for when they get home.

Yes, I would care. If I'm paying them, I want them to be attentive to the job at hand. I don't want them buzzed up and doing sloppy work.

.... aside from the quality + performance aspect, I don't want the liability.

If I needed a drunk doing a poor job, I'd send a request to Congress for a retiree.

I did once........seriously.......my Mexican Tile Floor.... I hired my friend to do.........when it was done wrong.........my Son said " Dad you payed the guy with beer........what did you expect?" lol

I smelled on booze on one of the two guys that came to install my counter tops. I called the company right in front of these guys and they were told to go back to the shop. Two other guys showed up a few hours later and had to take back the tops the others brought. They were granite tops that were all chipped and dinged up. I hadn't noticed but the other guys did.

I want you to know....that I, was one of those drunk installers.....I have to Thank you for turning me in. That incident changed my life! I now have a Much better job........thanks to you. Here I am, waving at you..........

a different point of view:
digging holes to fit 24 55gal.drums filled with cement then centered railroad ties
and on that build a log cabin by hand
only pay that was offered was 16 gallon keg of ice cold beer each weekend
took all summer
thats including stripping the logs by hand and cutting the ends dove tail by hand
the 15 guys was glad to have the pay
was a fun time
sweaty and buggy
lots of bugs

Lived in one for a couple years...

It was older than dirt, only wood heat ~

Broke my heart when I had to move away :p

Strengthened my resolve to do it again, someday !

just brute muscle, ever stirr cement while black flies are feasting on your person?

Well Cutter, I've been called a lot of things in my time but "cheesehead" ain't one of em, LOL.

I ain't stirred cement with black flies eatin' me alive but I have survived the jungle being eaten' alive by every GD critter known to mankind and then some. I'm still not sure if them thar things buzzin' over my head were bees or bullets, kind sound the same though.

If they were building a deck on the outside or swimming pool i probably wouldnt be too worried about it.....but electrical work.....yeah, probably wouldnt go over to well......

No Problem there. I have seen to many contractors show up at Noon with the beer.
And this one friend did show up in the morning 9 AM with a beer in his hand.I have lived in Texas all my life.
