I am not bound to traditions born of an era when the biggest public health threat was insufficient calories. This year I did happen to have a bite of turkey, but next year I think I'll have salmon.
I am a big fan of Ham, and Beef, also. And besides, why would anyone turn down a free meal these days. It is the only real "free" thing left in this country today, and is likely the only free thing found in the country for some time now.
I wouldn't turn down a Thanksgiving gathering invitation, just because of what food was being served. It would be nice to not be looked at suspiciously though, when I decline the 'meat' parts of a dinner.
I have not tried it yet.
Thanking God for what we have and how we live free here in this Great Nation...

Anyway, my family and I usually have ham for Thanksgiving, not turkey.
