Tyra Banks has transformed her modeling success into an impressive career spanning fashion and TV. But if she were getting her start today, looking like she did as a teenager, she says she'd be considered too fat to get hired. Find out what her mom had to say about it at 1:10 in the video below!
In an open letter congratulating Vogue for its recent decision to ban "too skinny" models, Tyra writes in The Daily Beast: "Many of you have graciously said that you want to have the same type of career that I’ve had....But the truth is that if I was just starting to model at age 17 in 2012, I could not have had the career that I did. I would’ve been considered too heavy. In my time, the average model’s size was a four or six. Today you are expected to be a size zero."

"In my early 20s I was a size four," she writes. "But then I started to get curvy. My agency gave my mom a list of designers that didn’t want to book me in their fashion shows anymore. In order to continue working, I would’ve had to fight Mother Nature and get used to depriving myself of nutrition.
"As my mom wiped the tears from my face, she said, 'Tyra, you know what we’re going to do about this? We’re going to go eat pizza.' We sat in a tiny pizzeria in Milan and strategized about how to turn my curves into a curveball. In a way, it was my decision not to starve myself that turned me into a supermodel, and later on, a businesswoman." Do you think young Tyra would be considered "too heavy" to be a model today?

No+22If Tyra Banks is too fat, then there is no hope for me. Might as well say f**k society and have a twinky!

Part of getting older......... If they go by her teenage picture, I think she would still do fine today if she was just starting out. imho
Honestly, does this:
Look better than this:
Um, no.
This is what the plus size model you chose (the one with raven hair, Crystal Renn) looks like on the runway:
Not as appealing, right?
And this is what the skinny model in a bikini in the second picture (her name is Magdalena Frackowiak) looks like in a photoshoot for an editorial with (probably) photoshop, nice light and perfect makeup:
And compare her stomach on the runway to the one for Victoria's Secret ads:
Also, I believe she was photoshopped in your picture too to look skinnier. In other runway or street style pictures I've seen she doesn't look that thin.
So I hope you don't blame me for thinking your comparison was unfair and maybe a little biased.

Hopefully not- she's slender here:
Now:
Neither is attractive, she is too thin now. lol
I wont ever understand the appeal of anorexia, as a look.
Are there guys that like girls who look like they have other mental illnesses, as well? Or what about a cold, is it sexy to have a red runny nose? lol
These people are very intelligent & generally extreme overachievers who feel compelled to be perfect in everything they do. School, work, team and individual sports, relationships, etc. When they begin to realize that perfection will never be attainable, they fool themselves into thinking that by controlling their body image with way screwed up diets, exercising, laxatives, starving themselves & vomiting, they will be able to attain at least one area of "perfection". It is still a most difficult disease to control, much less cure; & relapses occur throughout their adulthood. The disease is often compared to alcoholism and other addictive conditions.
I know a great deal about this because my older sister was one of the first "documented" cases of the disease back in the mid-70's & she has been living an up and down life for nearly 40 years. So strange is not a word I would use, more like soul-sucking.
Sorry I'm not jumping down you're throat, just letting people know the personal toll that American Culture can have on those of us who are unable to ignore the many, not-so-subtle messages about how we "should" be.
This is her with good light and a better pose and perfect makeup:
I don't know about you... But she seems pretty appealing in these photos.
Don't freak out, she's not as thin as in the picture you have! Don't let photoshop lie to you please. People do that all the time to degrade the fashion industry.
The first one is Nataliya Gotsiy and she looks like this:
The second one I believe may be one of the models of the Céline show in Paris Fashion Week 2001. I'm not sure exactly who she is, but she reminds me of Crystal renn when she was anorexic (but she was never as bony as that!). But I've seen the collections and none of them looked so unhealthy (her head seems too disproportionate to her body to be true).
The last one is the most used one. I don't know who she is, but I know that she's photoshopped A LOT:
The minimum nowadays is a size 2, not a 0 anymore.
would be considered to heavy.
