Happy 2012/06/17 23:33:29No...

Oh, sure, we can see the safty of a world where no one is held to any princible except that which they each decides works for them, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
Any question that insites or provokes thought - - is NOT a pointless question.
So, to speculate, I agree with the people that say "no, the world would not be better without religion" because I don't believe religion is always the problem, I believe it's more so people's interpretations.
If interpretation were not a part of religion :: there would be only ONE religion.
Religion basically is a compiling of interpretations...true.
Genocide is one.
Torture, rape and murder is another.
War..
Witch hunts...
Stoning...
Honor Killings...
And they get away with it, because it was done in the name of some religion... if no religion was involved, we then just call them what they are and lock them up.
Then I grew up, and people started to tell me that keep believing in Sta was stupid, but "God" is the only "TRUE"...
Sorry, but I choose to believe in people, phisics, all sciences, what is wrong and bad is common sense, nothing else. If I can help somebody, I don't need and ethereal superior bigger than the world spirit to tell me what to do.
Maybe if old religion, the ones based in Natura (worshiping nature) like old american natives, celtics, or similar could make sense to me (the basics were respect for all nature creatures), but the so called big religions, no thanks, even if I have friends from all three of them, and also from others.
I know,, The bible says so,, therefore it must be true ...LMAO
Most of the evidence of those who would say "Yes" to your question is about violence and wars etc that have been over Religion. It is very true that there has been (and is and will be) wars about or influenced by religion. To try to argue otherwise is futile and wrong.
But that is out of context. There has been wars about many things. It is very simple, men will defend and fight over what is worth dying for . If you take away the things worth fighting and even dying for, then of course there will be no fighting. People will fight for their lives, their families, their country, justice, their ideals, and yes sometimes their religion. They are less likely to fight over popcorn.
Because if you hold something so dear, more than your own skin, you will be willing to defend even with your life, instead of simply endlessly retreating. So if we want peace, we not only have to get rid of religion, but a host of other things as well that men are willing to fight for. But I am not sure if taking away everything important and dear to people, is the best course of action just because it will bring about less fighting (and that is of course only if everyone else got rid of it too along with you, if not you will simply be their victim).
Atheists Stalin, Lenin, Mao, Castro , Kim Jung, Pol Pot, Napoleon, Milosevic, Ceaucescu, Mussolini...have shown us. The results have been absolutely horrific. Over 100 MILLION dead and half the planet enslaved under brutal regimes.
