'World's cheapest car' coming to US: Will you buy this 65MPG car for $2,300?

India's Tata Motors has offered the United States the Nano, a small 65 MPG car that will cost $2,300 brand new. Okay, okay... this very small car may look like trash but 65 MPG sounds convincing, and not to mention it's very cheap price. Why so cheap? Well, it is a mid-level reliable car but cheap labor helps to keep the price down.

If the U.S. gets this car in 2011, we will get the European version of this car. If the U.S. fails to acquire this car, the government hates us.

Ugly is the not the main reason I would not buy.....and my answer probably won't be popular, but we have to stop buying items that are not produced in the U.S. Japanese and Korean companies are building the majority of their cars that are sold in the U.S. INSIDE the U.S. so I would consider one of those regardless of the price because it is giving income to those selling them the building materials and most importantly, giving jobs to American workers.
We have to stop outsourcing our jobs too - I can't tell you how man times I have called a company like Dell Computer or even United Airlines and reached an operator in New Delhi. Those are jobs that could be given to all our out of work Americans. I hope Obama will go through with promise to highly tax those companies that continue this practice so that itls no longer cheaper for them to take those jobs out of our country. We have to get Americans back to work!
Try not purchasing from these companies who are outsourcing jobs that could be given to people in our own country - easy to find out - if you are planning a major purchase, call their Customer Service Department and find out where those people you are talking with are located.

OH AND ON THE SAME NOTE - a bunch of people I know are boycotting products from Chinia from June 4 to July 4 just to give China a little taste of what it would be like without Americans buying all our merchandist from them. Even though it's 6/5, only 1 day late - Join us and stop buying items from China and Hong Kong.

Believe me, it is a lot of work You have to do a lot of label reading, but don't you think it would be worth it if it could brining back jobs to this country? You will be surprised at how hard it is to find items that are not made in China or Hong Kong. Good lesson for all of us to learn.

We can't show China what it would be like to be without giving them all our money until everyone will just give up one month and participate in this project.. Please join us!

I would probably not buy one of these because I wouldn't feel safe on big highways.. But I like the gas mileage and the price...but ya gotta watch out...you get what you pay for.

I don't know, you have me really LOLing here, I live out on the ocean side and agood gust would have me under water, does it have water wings? We also are in the hurricane belt, went thru four in six weeks, the car pictured would've ended up in a tree somewhere in another state. It's also an ugly little sucker too! I won't buy stock in it.

No way! How could you survive and accident in that little match box? The odds of survival are low at best. I would not feel the least bit safe in that little car. It's got to be the ugliest thing I have ever seen and it's not family friendly. Here in the midwest we can have some pretty high winds, that would be a total nightmare, not to mention very dangerous.

It's not the looks that bother me. I would like to see how it rates in American crash tests for one. Plus, with the winters we get around here, I wouldn't be able to get out of my driveway in that little clown car, let alone drive down a snowdrifted country road.

Maybe. It fits my code http://www.sodahead.com/blog/... and come in bright red :) It is ugly though. All cars are ugly but the more style they have the uglier they are. It may not have the "elegance" of a classic car (medieval torture device or MTD for short) but it definitely looks different from the average car.
