My mom bought a lot of toys there for Christmas that year. I remember getting a Walton's doll house and the dolls to go with it.

I have a good memory of Grants for a particular reason. My brother and I were allowed to go to the toy department while my mother shopped. There was a saleswoman there who would snatch me every time and haul me over to the office as a lost child and announce my name over the loud speaker. One day, we walked in the door and she snatched me right in front of my mother. My mother read her the riot act.

Wow, that would not be wise to do in today's world would it? I vaguely remember going with my Mother to one of the dime stores, and it seems like it was on Christmas Eve. I remember begging my Mother for a billfold that I liked. She finally gave in and bought it for me. lol Now nothing is open on Christmas Eve. Things were a lot different back then.

There used to be a store called Murphy's. And they had the best hotdogs, my Mom would always take me there for one of their hotdogs. They were delicious.

I wouldn't send my kids off on their own in a store these days. There are too many freaks and weirdies out there. Way too dangerous. It was okay in the 70s. I remember going to Philadelphia to Market Street at Christmas time. It was a yearly trip and a lot of fun.

I don't remember Murphy's but remember A&P. Atlantic and Pacific stores

When I was little I remember going to a 5&10 named Berts. They had the best lunch counter and the best club sandwiches. I'd give anything to have one like that again.

We had Kresges and Kress stores. I think they were the same company.

K-Mart used to have a small restaurant in the back. They had great apple dumplings. Our K-Mart gave up their restaurant years ago.

That's the way it was for me when my mom took me to one of those stores. Kinney was the only one that had shoes I could actually wear as well as shoes that lasted.

There's one in a neighboring town, but that's the only one I'm familiar with.

We used to have a Big Boy's in our area, they had wonderful sandwiches, but they are gone too.
