Women have been more intelligent than men for a hell of a lot longer than there's been a test around to prove it. Intelligence tests 'look' for traits which those who formulate them want to find. In times hence, nobody wanted to find any indication that women were smarter--just as they didn't want to find any indication that blacks or Jews might be smart back in the thirties.

The best definition I ever heard for 'IQ' was that which an intelligence test was designed to measure. If you start out with a biased measure, you're gonna get biased results. Shocker!

I think it depends on the person. Men and women, on average, have aptitudes for different areas, and it may be true that men and women use different parts of their brains for the same tasks. However, on an individual level, there's going to be overlap and variation between different people. I wouldn't consider it odd or wrong if a man chose to major in sociology or the culinary arts, or if a woman chose to major in physics or engineering.

If iq tests do not mean that whites are smarter than blacks then they don't indicate that women are smarter than men. I've seen plenty of high scorers that can't figure out how to change a spare tire because they threw out the owners manual to make more room in the glove box. Life is the real iq test.

my dad taught me how to change a tire when I was like 10 yrs old and I had to stand on the 4way... another skill I passed on to my daughter =)

nahhh though I will express my pissed offness at the fact that my old explorer... grrrr i couldnt check my own tranny fluid bc they now have some site plate thing n the mechanic didnt want to show me how to check it or find it and I was like dude... Im taking my new truck to show my dad... if I cant show him where stuff is he's gonna make terrible fun of me... I no longer have that vehicle

Many GM's have the same thing. You are supposed to have the vehicle at operating temperature and on a perfectly level surface or hoist. Then you remove the 1/8" check plug and if a drop of oil comes out it's ok. That is supposed to be an improvement over a dip stick. It's moere like a desighn by a dip stick. I think one of the problems with a dip stick, and maybe one of the reasons for the change, was that many people thought that the upper limit was the full mark and many times used the wrong fluid. Again, reading the owners manual would have helped that.

I read in a psychology magazine that intelligence is passed down via the maternal influence more so than the paternal. So, as women have two x chromosomes, to a guy's single x, it stands to reason that a mother has twice the chance to leave her intelligence imprint on her daughter as her son. Genetics do play a role in intelligence, as does environment - so it's not a far-fetched notion.

I think that it differs from man to man and woman to woman. Some women are smarter than men. Some aren't.

IQ tests are not considered a perfect way to measure how smart a person is.

So much goes int what you call intelligence that I can't say either.... So is intelligence found in how a player moves to a ball playing baseball - is there such a thing as physical intelligence...inherently understanding where your body is and how to best coordinate you body to accomplish a task? Maybe that's an area men develop typically better or maybe that's not even intelligence? How about 'intuition? I think women excel there and it's a process of the brain but is that intelligence? Interesting subject but no definitive answer.

Actually I think the reason men seem to control their feelings is because of a superior intelligence, but because they suppress feelings that they have been brought up to believe are unmanly, and also because for a lot men, they simply don't have as strong certain emotions, whereas women feel and express more because they are more intune with their feelings, and in many cases are more emotionally mature, and strive to understand emotions and learn from them, rather than push them away and shield oneself from feeling certain things. I think in this area, women are generally more intelligent, but that ability does have its down sides too. And I think men are more intelligent generally in other areas, such as business, maths etc. There are different types of intelligence, and the fact that there are more male politicians and scientists than female isn't evidence that men are superior. It shows that women in general are not wired or interested in those particular roles, because of how they are brought up and genetics, that does not mean they are not superior in other areas, and it is also because of the world is and always has been biased in favour of men.
