This story will make you think twice about going to the dentist.
Karen Butler had oral surgery that required anesthesia 18 months ago. Sounds pretty routine, except when she woke up, the 56-year-old lifelong Oregon resident had an Irish-Scottish-British accent, with notes of Australian and South African.
"It’s like a chameleon voice," Butler told the "Today" show on Thursday. "And I can’t make it be something that it isn't. You can pretend to have a southern drawl and talk like John Wayne; I can’t."
Butler appears to be suffering from foreign accent syndrome, which affects only about 100 people worldwide. It's usually brought on by a stroke, brain injury or, in some cases, a tumor.
While some people suspect Butler is faking, she and her husband are actually enjoying the ailment.
"We’ve had more fun with this than anything else," Glen Butler told "Today."
Do you think Butler's the real deal? Or is she faking it for attention?

And since they relate the condition to having a stroke it would be negligent not to perform diagnostic tests to determine whether she has actually had one or not as she could be at risk of having another.
I'm going to get off the plane in Calgary and all of a sudden have a Canadian accent... I'll blame it on the fact I fell asleep as we flew across the boarder... But shhhhhhh, don't tell anyone... lol
