If that is her preference, so what? If you bathe, you won't smell, hair or not. Sometimes it's good to question societal conventions. Good for her for having the courage to do just that.
Americans are always so quick to judge other cultures. That is what is "gross."

If there's one beauty ritual that almost all women partake in, it's shaving their armpits while they're in the shower. But graduate student Emer O'Toole from Dublin decided to examine why she felt she had to be hair-free -- and stopped shaving 18 months ago, The Daily Mail reports.

"I started examining my own relationship with my body, and my body hair," she told "This Morning." She continued, "Why did I feel I had to shave? I thought back to when I first started shaving. When I sprouted hair at 14, I didn't think, 'Will I shave or not?' I just knew I had to shave it off."
Over a year later, O'Toole says she's mostly OK with her armpit and leg hair. "Over the past 18 months, if I've felt awkward in a certain outfit that shows my hairy armpits, I've started to examine where my confidence comes from. If it's my looks, and my self-esteem is linked to that, then I've realized I need to find other sources for that confidence. Your looks aren't with you when you wake up in the morning if you have to put your makeup on first. And they don't stay with you as you age."

And she says guys are totally fine with her fuzzy pits, but women are pretty grossed out by it. Do you think women should feel free to go without shaving their armpits? Or is it a beauty must-do?

Great

deciding to not care about yoru appearance has nothing to do with confidence or self esteem! shoosing not to care for your beard becasue thats not where confidence comes from is stupid! no different for ladies! sorry! hair on the head is attractive on a woman, but not in the armpits!
even native americans both man and woman found facial and arm pit hairs disgusting! every time they got hair they plucked it out! when white men came to north america they found them quite ugly with the facial hair! my poin there is not that facial hair is bad, my point is, we need to take care of our bodies,
I shave my face, but only because I eventually get tired of the hair when it gets too long and/or mustache hairs end up on my upper lip (curling under). Then I cut them back with a trimmer, but I don't razor shave. If anyone has a problem with my appearance, they don't deserve my presence. And yes, that includes employers.
There is a huge difference between "clean" and "groomed" The two terms are mutually exclusive, one can be each independent of the other. That said, I'm always CLEAN, but seldom "groomed" according to socially accepted "norms". Mostly because I could care less about what other people think of me.
Yeah, I don't shave, but if I had a gf that wanted me to I would.
"examine why we thing we should be hair free" yeah right, you just didn't want to do it anymore.
Lets "examine" a lot of things, if we stay in air-conditioning we won't have to shower more than once a week! It doesn't make it any less gross.
2: Yes, Aesthetics. The same reason I don't let my scruffy beard grow out.
I'm not saying all women should be required to shave, but don't make it your life's mission to tell everyone your hygiene habits, and two, this girl should at least trim.
you can say personally you dont like hairy girl, but don't make that big statement, No men like natural women, come on.
Actually on second thought what women want to do is their business, Sorry Lady's
