Retail giant Target Corp. said it is extending price-matching with select online retailers beyond the holidays into a year-round policy. The Minneapolis company said shoppers can now request price matches anytime on identical items found at some big Web merchants, including Amazon.com and the online sites of Toys R Us, Best Buy and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
Also surviving beyond the holidays: the retailer's pledge to match in-store prices with those found on its own website. Target's original holiday price-match policy ended on Dec. 16. "We believe that our prices are competitive year-round," Mark Schindele, Target's senior vice president of merchandising operations, told the Associated Press.

Their policy is nothing more than PR., And it's usually a matter of pennies.
For larger items like TVs and such, trying to collect on their price match is problematical at best. It has to be the EXACT same thing; item and model number. Anyone who's ever compared electronics knows that different stores carry products that, while looking almost exactly the same, have a single letter or number difference in the model number.
These models are store-specific. So you'll see model XYZ-1EH5K at one store and model XYZ-1EH5Ka at another. Even though they are exactly the same except for that model number, they do not qualify for the "Price Match Guarantee".
I'll have to see how this plays out.
