The human body is a vastly complex biological organism but it is ultimately just a machine. With technology progressing the way it is I can easily see where someday it may be possible to either repair the body you have or perhaps transfer your consciousness into a new artificial bio-mechanical body.

I think the larger problem might become keeping your mind constructively interested in life after a century or two.

Learning to get telomeres to replicate themselves could make aging obsolete, but entropy will insure that eventually we all die.

We are not born to stay here forever, and death is not a sickness, death is a state of being, and death is also something that every individual born of a woman will experience. To every woman, man, boy and girl, there is set up an appointment to die.

Death and taxes are the only things certain in life. When taxes go away, so will death.

Why would we look for a cure, a cure is not required for life.

    May be.
    1) Life span can be extended by manipulating genome. Identifying and inactivating genes that contribute to aging of tissues will prevent tons of diseases, make us look younger and extend our life.

    2) There were tons of experiments where the flesh was connected to electrodes and they worked, so if could turn ourselves into cyborgs or smth, we could also potentially extend our lifespan.

    3) Nuclear war can happen that will erase all living creatures from the Earth. In this way there will be no death, since there will simply be nothing alive (nothing that can "die").

I think it's a possibility. Scientists are learning more and more about biology every day. I definitely think that life spans will continue to increase.

I think we will continue to see extension of life expectancy through medical technology improvements, but forever is a long time.

I can see the life span being vastly expanded. But, I don't see how you can keep a body going indefinitely.

It's possible that we may, someday, be able to upload our brains. But, would that really be us? Or would it just be a record of our experiences? Hard to say.

    For more info, Google Transhumanism.

Its a topic that been debated extensively for centuries. Is it biological, do we have souls, etc.

    You could well be right.

No, but the knowledge to greatly extend life is very near, unfortunately an increasing population living longer is an inevitable disaster, it's already starting to happen.

When I die .... I'm taking the Universe with me! ;)

Death is a part of a cycle thats natural and well beneficial for if there were no deaths in the world with a high population systimatically causing us to have a high rate of unemployment poverty therefore high crime rates, basically a place thats not so safe or stable. Thats how a little thing may cause great damage, underestimating results is something as humans we tend to do..

Only two things are for sure....death and taxes. And we'll see the end of death before we ever see the end of taxes.

To not die would be a terrible thing--life would have no meaning because we wouldn't die and so, it wouldn't have to end. It would, I think, grow boring in the long-run and people would not appreciate it.

I don't know if there ever will be (I doubt it). But there has been promising research into extending life span. Although I think it would be expensive and average people probably wouldn't be able to afford it.
