I was already an avid reader, the Kindle just makes it easier.

The original kindle: maybe... kindle fire: probably not. It also helps to find a books that is interesting... nothing worse than reading something you don't even like..

The simple fact is a device doesn't make kids read. Reading is taught initially by the parents as the kids emulate what they see. If the parents read and not watch the TV all the time then the kids read. That's the reason for kid books as the wonderment of using your imagination to visualize comes into use. This is why those books used by parents teaches kids to enjoy reading.

What's wrong with picking up a Kindle? I love books, but a kindle is much lighter and easier for a person like me who constantly travels.

I don't know.. Bookworms have always taken their books everywhere. Maybe the Kindle will help because they can play games on it too.

Oh yes! And you can create documents to download onto it. You can get all sorts of free books that are in the public domain, from Amazon, the Gutenberg Project and the Internet Archives. You can also read any pdf file on your Kindle.

I would have thought it was more content than media, I seem to remember have read a study that J.K.Rowlings "Harry Potter" books had encouraged a big boost in independent reading amongst young people..

I suspect that the twilight and hunger games books will do the same.

A kindle is just a Kindle, as great as an idea as it was kids still wont pick it up. Reading is still reading so.

I think if a kid likes to read, he/she is going to read. I think it fits into their way of doing things now. My daughter will be attending a school this fall (middle school) that emphasizes computers, so we'll see how it goes.
