Will technology make humans obsolete?

Yes. We need some serious checks and balances to prevent this from going horribly wrong.
No. Nothing like what happened in Terminator or Battlestar Galactica is ever going to happen in real life.

With every advance in technology comes the temptation to be complacent, to have faith in corporations to know what they are doing and just sit back and let it - whatever it may be - happen.
On an almost daily basis, technology ticks another box in the long list of things we call futuristic.

Already, robots can make decisions based on their operational environment - distance, temperature, shapes etc and even software is capable of making basic alterations to itself.

But will this rate of change ever get to the point where humans are regarded as nothing more than a flawed line of code? Will we be re-written by an AI army of production line soldiers, clanging their metal feet on the ground as drones swoop down from on high ready to shuffle us out of existence in the name of efficiency?

If humankind last long enough I'm certain that technology will become part of human biology probably starting with helping the blind to see, people with nerve damage to walk, possibly memory, then growing organs using advances in bio-technology. If and when human kind venture out into the stars in possibly thousands of years I'm sure that the human consciousness will be on something inorganic if only because humans can't physically travel the vast distances of space.

Even with robots now that have replaced some humans, it still takes a human to maintain all that equipment.
