Desktops have advantages of easier upgrading, better standardization but higher energy usage. On the other hand, we have become more mobile and computer prices have dropped. Software can be downloaded, freeware is readily available...

Who wants to be tied to one place, when I can do the same thing sitting in a car or on a plane or on a train?

Probably not in the next 10 years at least but eventually it probably will.

There is still to much software the requires more umpff... then a notebook or tablet can handle at this time.

I remember (and still have) my first home computer, a Timex-Sinclair with 48k of extended memory. The company billed it as "all the memory you'll ever need."

And, then something will come around to take their place. It's called progress. Of course, it is really rank consurmerism, but they have to make money someway. And, goodness knows, the general public always wants the newest toy, especially if it's hard to get.

No and I hope not!! I'm not going to "carry" my desk office around me when I'm at school and/or in public.

Maybe, but not the desk top. Business will continue to use desk-top computers.

Probably - simply because of their portability.
