LATIMES.COM reports:
If restaurants and movie theaters in New York City limit sugar-sweetened beverages to 16-ounce servings, as Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposes, will it really cut people's calorie consumption -- or is this a rearranging-deckchairs-on-the-Titanic kind of move?

If you can't control yourself to the point of denying yourself unhealthy foods, then eat yourself sick.

I am sure that the soft drink business will not take much of a hit, only because they will come up with something to dance around "super-size me" and keep consumption up, like half-price refills, bring your own container, etc. There will be one benefit, less litter.

It's ridiculous. Just another bit of nonsense to add to Bloombergs list. NYC is becoming police state. This has to stop somewhere. Do we ban bakeries? Ice cream? I really do think Bloomberg can find something else to do. This is a big city.

I say yes to some extent, that is where someone is encouraged to buy bigger becasue of a cost advantage. You want a small but it is tipid when the medium costs so little more. That is what they are doing encourageing you to drink more than you want. obviously if you want more you can buy another or two.. the real problem is pricing but it is a ubiquitious marketing method and makes sense from a marketing point of view.

My favorite mayor in action again. Why are you New Yorkers voting for this ass ? Since when do we need politicians telling us what we can eat or drink and how much of it ? We are allowing the nosy do-gooder nannies to fook this country up.

You are right. They get a little power and immediately want to expand it.

Although I lean conservative, you are right that the difference is more what they want to control than the desire to control.

I tell people I'm a left-leaning libertarian: I want the government out of personal business, from sex to guns to what someone of legal age might wish to consume, but I don't quite trust corporations to do what is right or healthy.

People will order more soft drinks instead of the larger containers.

The law was just another worthless, symbolic gesture.
