LATIMES.COM reports:
If restaurants and movie theaters in New York City limit sugar-sweetened beverages to 16-ounce servings, as Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposes, will it really cut people's calorie consumption -- or is this a rearranging-deckchairs-on-the-Titanic kind of move?

Bloomberg say's that people have a tendency to drink more soda if it's served in a bigger cup and a tendency to drink less soda if it's served in a smaller cup. Along that same line of reasoning... if we were to cut Bloomberg's budget down to half the size that it is now... wouldn't he have a tendency to spend less of our money?

Actually, some of us drink less soda by having the bigger cup and filling it with ice first. I can then sip on coke-flavored water for most of the afternoon as the ice melts. (Though I usually drink diet sodas) That's an easier way to get the 8 glasses of water nutritionists say we should drink everyday.

Now you just two-fist your soday-drink.

Also, is Michael Bloomberg an Independent because of his views, or is it just the fact that no political party wants to claim him as theirs?

If you really want to drink that much soda, you'll just buy more small servings. I know that jumbo-drink sizes are getting out of hand and all, but this isn't going to do anything but piss people off. Both the people who drink the drinks, and the people who will just be angry over the principle of the matter.

Some people buy large drinks without getting the calorie count-- for example, movie-theater prices are so ridiculous that it's notably cheaper for two people to buy one large drink and share than to buy two smaller drinks, if those people are comfortable sharing a drink.

why would it help and what business does the govt have in regulating what a person consumes. people will simply buy 2 drinks or they can still go to the store and buy a whole 12 pack or 2 liter bottles. it aint going to do crap!!! nor does it need to.

The same business it has with the smoke-free cities, mandating seat belts, child labor laws, and background checks for certain jobs. That's what business the government has in these matters.

At my age running for office are behind me. Besides with todays dirty politics I don't have any desire to step in the gutter. People who have did well and accomplished much in their lives are smart enough not to get involved with such a vicious dirty business. The's why we get stuck with wacky loons like Bloomberg or a Joe Biden. The MSM is responsible for it.

New York City's Large-Soda Ban Will Not Reduce Calories Consumed

All that it is going to do is cause more plastic throw-away glasses to be used, because people will simply purchase two drinks instead of just one.

Hmm... Maybe Daddy Bloomberg will have to only allow people to purchase one a day.

But I'd be willing to bet the next move is to ban the sale of canned soft drinks in 6 or 12 packs. No more than two can be purchased in a 24 hour period, and DL or other forms of ID will be used to track it, as they now do with pseudoephedrine.
